My TR1 Cafe Racer - a tribute to my late brother Kevin

So after numerous challenges, some of which I solved with the help of DoTheTon members, my TR1 build is complete and its a cracker! Its been shown at the Bike Shed Festival in London, and its also featured in Pipeburn and Iron & Air...

Yamaha TR1 - weird starter issues

Thanks all, yes - I've already replaced this part when I did the idler gear. Update: I've stripped the starter motor - there are signs of the parts spinning against each other... grooves and burrs https://www.dropbox.com/s/ue6ev7gpdwjatwc/IMG_20190517_203336298.jpg?dl=0 JB Welded the parts, as...

Yamaha TR1 - weird starter issues

OK, I have a feeling that the "spinning ring gear" described in this article, might be the problem - as the symptoms make sense. I used to have the "grinding idler gear problem", fixed that. Thus, now more load has been applied to the spinning ring gear feature - which has now failed. This...

Yamaha TR1 - weird starter issues

So, I've been building this bike over the last 2 years, and its finished, and has been running ok - up until this weekend! Now it barely fires at all, and it seems that the starter is just spinning... but it is definitely engaging the alternator gear and turning the engine over - just not every...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Thanks!! Although it looks like the thickness of the mounting plate adapter will cancel out some of the space gains from this sliding caliper... looks do-able though. I guess I could position the mounting plate on the inside face of the caliper mounts...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Yep, so I would need to make/buy an adaptor plate of some sort I guess... Also, is this compatible with my 320 discs? I think the SV disc size is around 240 - but in my mind, this caliper is independent of disc diameter?

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Right, so I am going for another lower triple tree & stem to give me 54mm lower clamp size, and match my top clamp dimensions. Will get some alternative USD forks to allow for axial calipers. Will get a pair of sliding calipers, probably from an sv650/bandit - to give the most clearance to...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Sorry, the best lower clamp for me is going to be GSXR600/750 K4/K5 not the K3. I mis-read the table after a large glass of red... This lower clamp will match the offset 207/30 of my own upper clamp, then I have more 50/54 fork options with sliding calipers. So the main question is does the...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

rotor spacers are not made yet - so there is scope to change that to increase distance as you describe above. So, I could get a GSXR600 K3 stem and lower clamp - this would give me the 54mm lower clamp size, whilst maintaining the 207 centres that I already have in top clamp. Then I can get the...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Yeah, i have milled an angled face off the corner of the caliper [to match the spoke angle] - thats what gave me 2-2.5mm in total. I was hoping for 3-4mm but it didn't work out as planned, sadly. Thanks!

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Yep, correct - the triples are made. I chose 207 centres and worked on that, thinking it would be ok - I bought USD forks with radial caliper mounts, which i knew would be close to the spokes, but thought it might just be enough - it ended up being 2mm clearance from radial caliper to spoke. I'm...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Thanks! This is very interesting. The disc hole centres are different [mine are 80mm pcd, 6 holes] but i have to make a spacer/adaptor anyway, so I could have it work for the 80pcd and also the CBR929RR disc pcd which looks like its around 120mm?

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

Need matching triple-clamp diameter USD forks with sliding calipers.. Right, i definitely need sliding calipers to clear my spokes on the front wheel, as the radial calipers are just too close for my liking [2mm]! My problem is that my triple trees are already made for my existing GSXR 750 USD...

330mm discs [rotors] with 80mm PCD [honda CB hub]

I tried the Tokico calipers for size - they are the same dimensions towards the inside. I wish i had thought about getting the 214mm centre triple clamps, before I had a nice top clamp machined up! That would have made my life much easier, live and learn.
