    Fuck the 400s

I've ridden thru TO, and agree the 400's are crap. But a necessary evil, to get you poor bastards out of town quickly. If you've time to kill, get as far as bowmanville on 401 ( heading east I'm assuming) then a short jog north to highway 9 east. Follow that cross country past the bottom of rice...

1978 cb550 rattle under load. Any help?

I had a 78 550k with a mystery rattle, that later turned out to be a loose clutch basket. That particular noise only showed up NOT under load, and at and around idle, went away above 2000 rpm. If it helps you at all, mine didnt sound at all like your rattle. I'm leaning to exhaust leak, or...

    1976 Yamaha RD400

I'm no electron/proton expert, but 3 different relays and a LOT of trial and error wire swapping, finally have working signal lights. Now on to tuning a steady idle with this thing for the safety.

Well there's something to be said for completely stripping a bike and starting from scratch. ( I have not done that here ) Took me the better part of a week of spare time poking around with a multimeter to isolate the disconnection preventing the tail light from working. A connector had parted...

Rolled the civic last night - Back on the road!

Re: Rolled the civic last night - now what? Glad you're ok Maritime. I'm with Bozz on that, do a "for now" fix as much as absolutely necessary and watch your local kijiji or whatever for a similar year civic with a blown motor. You know right now theres a kid near you just itching to trade...

Thanks for the heads up on that Jones, when I'd originally removed the carbs for cleaning that was one of the first things I looked at. It's a bit awkward getting a straight on view but all 4 reeds on both sides appear to flex ok, and seat fully closed.

Agreed, my version of "on the pipe" is when it comes alive, versus the slightly stumbling/slobbering it does when first rolling on. This also has stock pipes, and that reminds me I should likely pull the baffles and clean in there too. I understand that plugged baffles lead to higher than...

Update: Found some time to fiddle with the carbs. Going on gut feeling of too lean, adjusted float height from 20-21 mm to the more correct level of 15-17 mm ( according to the literature I have anyways ). Moved needle in throttle slides "up" ( thats the circlip down btw ) one position, for...

Thanks Jenn, we're nowhere near pro, for full disclosure. Any job is so much better with a working buddy or two, where one gets stalled or held up, the other has a work around. Heyyyy Jenn, YOU've got a working buddy don't ya? haha

To the people that document their builds religiously in photos, my hats off to you. The entire time we were working on it, I rarely recalled to pick up my phone and take pictures. So, rims off and cleaned inner surface, installed new tubes and tires . The correct tools really help here. When...

    HELP!!! honda CB360

Theres already lots of help being posted here, but I'd like to point out a real basic thing that people familiar with older bikes forget very easy because they dealt with this being a problem a very long time ago: First, when checking for signs of life, you will get NONE if the kill switch is...

To continue! I've sorted what is most likely needed to not only make it run , but to get it certified as well. Barring disaster I'm shooting for roadworthy in about a month. A carb removal/cleaning ( runs , but roughly) Lube or replace sticky cables Certifications here tend to be...

    1976 Yamaha RD400

A little more info: Sold without ownership or any papers really. Just a bill of sale. Here in Ontario that means several hoops to jump thru with the government putting hands in my pocket for each. With any luck an affidavit and I'll be good for an ownership, but I'm guessing they may require...
