Don't mean to threadjack Redbird, but I have been on both sides of that situation that ROc City mentioned. I bought an old tank years ago that was long out of production and the company making them ceased to exist. So I paid for a tank and then split the base off and repaired both parts and made a mold and got that just right and started to make tanks for a few friends.
A few months later I see another one of my tanks that my "friend" just copied and was selling. I was not well pleased at that.
After that I just made a mold when I needed something and it usually goes with the bike when I sell it. What the new owner does after that is up to him.
If I were making tanks for a living, I would have been very annoyed and yes, my panties would probably still be in a knot.
I kind of draw the line somewhere in the sand, and buying a part that someone else made to pull a mold off it isn't new, but it still sucks. That's not good karma in my book.
