Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (Coming Back Together)
I finally got the bike back together and took some legitimate photos. Hope you all like it. Im smitten.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (Coming Back Together)
Heres my speed sensor bracket I fabbed up. Countersunk a magnet into the disk rotor to act as the trigger. I really like the Acewell unit. It was worth the $200.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (Coming Back Together)
Well after having my rectifier/regulator take a crap on me and frying all my positive and ground wires through the entire harness I have my acewell gauge wired up and working. I took the opportunity to clean up the wiring harness and replace...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (Coming Back Together)
I really like the high rise clip on's. Still look good, and have an aggressive feel but aren't fatiguing on the wrists nearly as much. Thanks for the compliments.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (New Paint)
Still a few more things to button up. Have something fun to put on the friday. Got the master cylinder on today, it came from a 2009 250 ninja. Paint is finished and I am really proud of my first paint job. My 5 years in the automotive detailing...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (New Paint)
Decided to make up a new seat as the last one I did was on my girlfriends machine and not my singer, and my skills have improved. Im pretty happy with it. Its more of a bergundy color not bright red like the pictures lead you to believe.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle (New Paint)
I highly suggest looking on craigslist for one of these machines
It is a singer model 15-91 and they can be had for about 50 bucks if you look around. They are gear driven and will plow through all sorts of materials with ease. You will struggle...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
I have made alot of progress on the bike since the last time I posted, and have begun repainting my bike. Its been a good experience and is coming out better than I would have expected. I will let the pictures do the talking.
Before wet sand and polish,
after...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Yup the tank on the kz400 is stock, and all the blue paint on that bike is original. For the knee dents I went to harbor freight and got a body hammer and then just started beating the hell out of it. This is a good video that I watched before hand. My tank was...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
I drilled holes every 1" around the edge of the seat pan and riveted the vinyl to the fiberglass. I've tried staples before, this worked much better and was much easier.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
I built a fiberglass seat pan using my cafe hump and tank, and then cut it to shape. I then adhered two different density of foams to the pan and shaped it to my desired size. Thats what the upholstery fits over. Im not entirely enthralled with the front of the...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Yes actually im looking at a whole new paint scheme. Havent decided yet. The bed liner worked great for one riding season but Im looking to change it before it stops raining in the nw.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Haven't had many comments, but I will keep posting updates. I got a little creative with my girlfriends sewing machine, some foam, and some vinyl. Im pretty happy with the results. I also lowered the front of the bike a little.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Been awhile since I have updated this thread. Made a few changes to the bike that include
-lowering the headlight
-added a set of high rised tarozzi clip on's. I got really lucky and found these on craigslist for a steal, I love them and they are very...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Finally got it all figured out. Continued to have firing issues on #3. Ended up taking the carb rack off 3 more times until I got it right. Also took off the emissions air injection system. Bike Runs like a freaking dream now. No popping no spitting, Super easy...
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Thanks,
I headed over there and have ruled out any type of carb problem. Seems like I have an ignition problem at the moment. #2 and 4 are not firing and have a very weak spark. Havent had time to delve into it that much but will get my hands into it tomorrow.
Re: KZ650, My first motorcycle
Having a little bit of an issue tonight. Last wed I synched my carbs using a vacuum gauge. In the process I found that the air port that you hook the gauge up to on #3 was completely open, and #2 didn't look much better. So I had a serious vacuum leak. This...
