I'm working on my 1967/68 YCS1c -- It's a 180cc twin, 2 stroke. Have the heads/cylinders off and need to order new pistons and rings. Build thread here.
Can anyone tell me what these numbers indicate?
RH Piston - 597 on top and 5050 on bottom.
On inside -- IZUMI 8
LH Piston - 5degrees on...
Hey Bruno! Glad to see you're still here. Love your mono-shock build!!
Pulled the motor and took the heads off and found the problem pretty quickly. RH cylinder only had 1 ring, and that ring was split in half!
So where did the other ring go? Looks like it was punched into dust by the...
Hey guys -- I'm back and working on this bike again!!
At some point last summer I started to try and get it to run and was worried that the RH cylinder seemed to have low compression. I got super frustrated with the carbs and intake boot and instead of burning down the garage, I decided to...
Got the switch sorted out thanks to help from the guys over at 2strokeworld. It was like unraveling a sweater though -- the wiring for starter, signals and lights had all been clipped off and electical taped into the harness in random places. I would pull at one spot to try and find a wire and...
I've got a pair of JDM Iron Rangers. (And no... I didn't pay $700 for them.... picked them up in the outlet bin at the factory for peanuts.) Great boots!
Eh -- If it was a 750 or even a 550, I wouldn't even think twice.... I just don't know if this is a deal too-good to pass on. I've got plenty of projects so this one would just be cleaned up and stuck under the girlfriend.
Bike is in 8/10 shape -- everything is complete and it's been in 1 family since new. Hasn't started in 3 years but was running fine when it was parked. Stored indoors. A real survivor. I can pick it up for $800. Good price/deal?
Cleaned all of the terminals on my ignition switch and what do you know..... I got results that make a bit of sense!
The strange thing here is that blue appears to be a switched ground. It only grounds out when in the 3rd position. What does this mean??
I've made a pretty big mess of things. This is a 1968 Yamaha YCS1. The stock wiring harness appears to be intact but the ignition switch that I have is a mystery. The ignition switch is 6 wires (IG/HL/C2/C/S3/SE).
My wiring diagram shows 5 wires connected to the switch (B/C/T/L/A).
I'm...
Oh man.... You're totally stricken with this!
(And I'm going to look at another old 2-stroke this weekend so I can't really judge.)
Looks like you're on the right path. It doesn't sound like you need to but oversized rings are for oversized pistons are for oversized/bored cylinders.
Also --...
I picked up the last set of those at my local Harbor Freight. And.... if you've never had the pleasure of trying to locate the "last" one of something remaining in the inventory system at HF when there are not any items on the shelf.... I don't recommend it. A truly painful experience.
So...
That makes sense. I'm not sure how I'll measure the venturi, but I'll try to figure it out. The slide is out so easy to measure.... I'll check it out when I get home tonight.
http://www.procycle.us/carb/mikuni_dimensions.htm makes it look like they are OD measurements? Except for the two called out as ID? Maybe I interpreted this wrong.....
I've got a thread in the project forum but thought I might be able to get more specific help here.... Trying to figure out what jets/needles and rebuild gaskets I need to order for these carbs. Can't for the life of me figure out what mikuni they are (they don't match up to any of the mikuni...
