Well, this all stems from I want to compress my wiring harness.. What can I cut out/replace in order to make it smaller and more compact?

Name's Jonathan. I live in Wilmette (Northern Suburbs).. Just started rebuilding a CB550. A novice when it comes to this stuff so any and all help is more then welcome!

Is this a terrible idea? I know Cycle X makes a kit so I can run without a battery. Just do kick start, etc.. Is this dumb? I'm making a bike for street use. I don't mind the fact of just using a kick start. Plus I think the retro idea is cool. But is this a really dumb idea...

I'll mostly be welding outside seeing as my basement is very tight space wise..

Eh, I wish I could say I was good with welders, but I'm not.. the next question I have is flux core or MIG? Again, not going to use it very often.. Is it worth it to go with gas?

Just finished mounting a 78 CB750 Rear Swing arm so I could use my rear disc brake. It was roughly the same as my CB550 swing arm, just need to make some shims and spacers and the rear end looks good! Also got some new clip ons, (ones that weren't bent) and a welder from a friend! So expect...

So I found a 78 CB750 SS Swing arm.. It is the same length as my 77 CB550 Arm, same shock mounting tabs and yet it'll run my rear disc brake! Just finished mounting it all up. Need to make a few spacers for the wheel, but it looks good!

I really want to put a ramp in.. But right now I have to navigate a flight of stairs. I've done it a bunch of times with my old 250cc dirt bike.. With the CB550 I took the engine out to make it easier. Once it gets to a certain stage though it goes outside and lives in my shed and I do work on...

I wish I had a garage.. I'm working right now out of my basement..

I guess you guys have a point.. and the most expensive part of this is the 50ft extension cord I'd be making out of SJOOW cable to run the welder outside.. That I can always take with me anywhere..

Have you started to figure out chain alignment? I too am using a CBR600 rear wheel and a 750 swing arm and was wondering if you had any insight to the spacers and pairing of these two bikes..

I found a 78 CB750SS Rear Swing arm on ebay for $10 so I am going to try that and see how that fits up..

It's just the picture is at a weird angle.. The fork tubes are luckily straight.. I have a few parts in the mail but I am just doing some rough fittings..
