How does sprocket size effect performance?

Yeah I definitely don't baby it. I have been considering saving up some dough for a commuting machine so I don't have to keep punishing my bike everyday.

How does sprocket size effect performance?

Thanks guys. Perhaps the easiest solution is to spend the extra $ to grab a 16t and an 18t front sprocket, allowing for a little bit of experimentation. I do notice that sometimes I have to downshift to fifth from sixth when climbing a steep hill on the freeway, in order to maintain decent...

How does sprocket size effect performance?

So then given that line of logic I might be better off heading in the opposite direction, 16t and possibly a larger rear, 39 or bigger?

How does sprocket size effect performance?

Redline on my bike is 10k, and I'm hitting my topspeed of about 90 (on flat ground, though the speedo goes to 120 I believe) just at or under 8k, given my tach is functioning properly, though when I'm pushing it like that, it tends to rattle and bounce a bit.

How does sprocket size effect performance?

Thanks guys, definitely lending some clarity. Basically I wouldn't mind having a bit more juice on the top end, but I also wouldn't mind being able to get up to a little more speed in first gear before having to shift to second, as it seems pretty short as is. I'm not sure if that's something...

How does sprocket size effect performance?

Hello gentlemen My chain has been loosening itself a bit as of late and things are generally pretty worn (no clue when [if] the previous owner ever updating the sprockets and chain) so I was thinking I need an overhaul. New front sprocket and rear sprocket, along with a new chain. I believe...

    FUEL: Regular Unleaded VS Hi-Octane

By far the most intelligent responses of any forum I've ever had the pleasure of posting in. Thanks gentlemen! My Clymer book says this: 3.7 US gal. (14 liters) total - 86 octane (pump) 0.8 US gal. (3 liters) reserve - 91 octane (research) Anyone care to enlighten me as to what this is...

    FUEL: Regular Unleaded VS Hi-Octane

Curious if the high octane not completely combusting in the engine might attribute to any additional decel popping?

Nice, definitely on my to-do list. And yeah I lowered front and back about an 1" and it sits a lot nicer in my opinion (though I am a short bastard).

    FUEL: Regular Unleaded VS Hi-Octane

I'm running UNI pods, rejetted carbs and aftermarket (MAC 4-1) exhaust on a 75 cb400f. It's my first bike and the guy I bought it from back in October swore by hi-octane fuel so I just took his advice.

Lookin for tips: cleaning do and don't

Hey guys My bike is a daily commuter so it's seeing a bit of grime. I also might have a bit of an oil leak, as my top end has some wet oily bits on some of the fins and tappet covers and whatnot. Basically I was gonna pressure wash it and was wondering if anyone had any tips for the process to...

    Cb400f idle issues

I too have been experiencing some idling issues lately... mainly when things heat up. In the morning its cold (55 degrees... San Diego cold) and I ride on the freeway for about 20 minutes to work each weekday and it idles great at the few stop lights post freeway... Then on the way home it's...

    FUEL: Regular Unleaded VS Hi-Octane

Hey guys Not sure if this topic has been covered, feel free to link me up if so! Anyway I was hoping to gather some opinions on fuel in vintage bikes. I have always run hi-octane (I think 91?) as I figure over the course of a year it's not that much more out of my pockets (+.20 per gallon over...

    Rust in the tank

Was wondering about this recently, as I cleaned my tank a bit and have what I can only assume is 'flash' rust, as in a thin layer from not putting a coat of anything in there after cleaning... Tips for coating the tank anyone? Pour something in there and shake it up? Sorry for the layman question.

Seat and rear hoop look classy as hell! Nice one! Might be somewhere earlier in the thread, but did you just chop up the stock front fender? I took mine off but am worried about instability so I was thinkin of choppin it up and throwin it back on...

    CB400f Shock Disassembly

Nut is separate from the eye, the eye slips onto the frame over a threaded post. Basically just a nut and washer to keep the shocks in place.
