Ya the shocks I used the brass. On the wheels and some of the other chrome bits I have used a very light grit sand paper as well and that works good.

Yes I have been using a brass brush on a drill. I also used a brush that came with my dremel that was some other type of metal and it worked well, but the brush didn't hold up. Which pieces are you talking about? The headlight ears I used the dremel brush. Everything else has been the brass brush.
