CB550 LED turn signals and flasher relay...

UNCOILED

I installed LED turn signals on my 78 cb550 and they won't flash. When I switch the turn signal on they just light up, and not very bright (same for front signals, still stock). So far I have only changed over the rears and when I hook the stock ones back up they work correctly. I have tried messing with all the connections and grounds but no luck. Both sides do the same thing so I know it probably has something to do with the LEDs rather then connections. I have been reading and think I need to replace the flasher relay, but it works with the stock turn signals so I'm not sure it will help.

Any ideas?

Standard flasher relays work on the old principle of using heat to trip the flashers (same principle as the old school thermostats in your house). The current pulled by LEDs is so low that it can't heat the bi-metallic piece to make them flash.

You need to get an electronic flasher designed for LED bulbs. Most auto parts stores should have them.
