1957 BSA A7

Been Around the Block
I pciked this up a few weeks ago in pieces, the engine was apart, and it was yellow(yuck). Anyway, I got it all reassembled, and painted it yesterday. Fired it up today. I like it.

Wow. That's a nice bike. What are your plans for it now that it's running?

I think I'm just going to leave it how it is. Maybe some lower bars. But other than that, I think its pretty classy.

it's stunning. Are you going to get some BSA tank badges for it?

I have them, and the knee pads too. I'm just waiting for the clearcoat to harden a little more.

Very nice, I see more and more of the smaller(500cc and below) BSAs on the net being fixed up. I think that's a GOOD sign that these bikes are getting some of the respect that they are due.

Agreed...

I have a hard time believing these great bikes are so old.

Love it!

Thanks. Ya, it shifts on the right hand side. And its backwards, 1 up, 3 down. So I have 4 bikes that shift three different ways. I get confused if I'm not thinking about what bike I'm on.

1up and so many down is often refered to a s GP shift pattern. It's the same pattern you get if you use the rear pegs as rearsets and just reverse the shift lever to point backwards. That's how my 350 is set up and I'm not used to it yet.

;D ;D ;D I get a kick out of some of the kids on the http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/index.php? forum when they "discover" that they can switch their shifter linkage around and make it a "GP style" shift pattern. Us um... older guys that grew up on TWO-STROKE(Oh my!!) in the 60s/70's get a chuckle because for most of us that WAS the shift pattern on almost all the old dirt bikes of the time,so it's no big deal to us.

I like it on a trail/dirt bike as I keep my foot on top of the shift lever so my toes don't get caught if I snag a tree root(ouch!),have to lift my feet quickly on the trail or crash/wash out all of a sudden. It also lets you bang through the gears a little quicker as your coming out of a corner in the woods/trail,but on the street I still prefer the standard pattern they have.

When I had my 88 CBR600( excellent if under powered machine) I change it to "GP" shift style for a few days for old times sake, but really don't care for it on a street bike.
