Just wanted to say this is still alive and going. My tank got screwed up and had to be re-done. That took a while. It was pretty anti-motivational to be honest, but now I've got it back and the project keeps on trucking away...

It wasn't too awful bad. I used Google to figure out most of it. New 12V coil, new 12V rectifier/regulator to replace the old rectifier (I used a Sparck Moto one), new 12V signal flasher (I used Sparck Moto), new 12V lights including all bulbs and the lights in the gauge cluster (Sparck has LEDs for the cluster), 12V condenser, 12V starter solenoid, etc. You'll need a 12V headlight that's socketed unless you want to do something custom. These guys sell a 12V bucket that you can get 12V bulbs from them for a few bucks. It's plug and play for the headlight and the harness. Beware though that it's not DOT legal, if you care...

You'll also probably need a more powerful stator. I used one from a CB200. It fit right where the stock one was and wiring is the same. The only custom wiring you'll have to do is to wire all 3 phases from the regulator so that they're all in use all the time, vs just the two phases that are wired in stock trim. In stock trim, when the headlight is off, two phases are active, and then when you turn the headlight on low or high, the third phase becomes active. If you study a wiring diagram for the bike you'll see how one phase essentially runs through the headlight switch. You basically just wire that to be on all the time and bypass the switch.
Update tonight. I got my chain on, got my chain tension set, got my back end all tightened up. I reupholstered my seat myself. I think it turned out pretty awesome. I'm happy with it. I set it on the bike, and also set the exhaust and chain guard on just to get an idea of what it looks like when it's more put together. I'm working on the fenders now (they're going to be silver).
Mostly what's left - new to get a new set of steering wheel controls, throttle tube conversion, grips, 12V headlight, wire up the starter solenoid, get a 12V battery, finish the fenders and finish up the rear lights (I got the same blinkers that are on the front for the rear, and I need to get a 12V bulb), and some other misc things. I think she's looking good so far though.
