So I just drove to Tahoe, CA to pick up my new winter project! It is a 1969 Honda CL175. This bike used to belong to my father in the early '70s. When I was born he sold it to my uncle. Just recently my uncle passed away so I bought it back from my cousin. The bike is in pristine condition except for some minor dents and scratches. I plan on documenting the whole process and see where it goes from here.
Does anybody know why Dime City only really sells parts for the CB350 & up? I assume because their parts are interchangeable? Can you tell me a good source for CL175 parts. I am thinking of putting on a CB200 front end with hydraulic upgrade, any info you have would be greatly appreciated.
If you look under the "DTT build collection" section, there is a thread by myself with all the smaller Honda's. And there are some links for parts and such.
I'm with the above though - it really is a great survivor. Are you 100% certain it's a CL175? The body looks like an SL.......which is extremely rare.
Seriously, that could be a show bike. Like I said before, I don't want to tell you what to do, so I'll just strongly encourage you to not modify that beautiful bike. I think you will be glad you left it original years from. There are too many 350s out there to chop up and customize. You should really be proud of that thing, especially since it has been in the family for so long.
This bike is beautiful! I second the idea to keep it as is. If for some reason, though, you can't find another beater 175 or 350, at least only make "reversible" changes and don't you dare paint it
I agree. This bike is too pretty to be fooling with. Take it from somebody who has been there. If you start messing with it you will break stuff. Replacement parts are not going to be in as good of condition as the parts you currently have.
Collect $300 and find a beater bike on craigslist.

OK well thanks guys! I am just going to the necessary mechanical fixes and leave it as is. Thanks for the input. I'm glad I didn't start cutting it up. Looking for a CB350 Roller with a good engine any ideas where I could get one?
I don't know if you can tell but the spokes on this beauty are deeply oxidized (no rust) what is the best way to polish these babies? I was thinking of replacing the spokes but then I can't claim all original. I would be willing to pull the wheels apart and polish all the spokes individually. Please adivise
I pulled my left engine cover off to replace the seals and gaskets. I noticed that a ball bearing had fallen out. I believe it is for the clutch assembly.
1) Correct me if I am wrong
2) Does it go between the clutch push rod and the adjuster or does it go between the adjuster housing and adjuster screw assembly?
1969 Honda CL175 - Scrambler - Engine RPMRacing in idle after TLC & Clubmans
I just finished putting my bike back together after a little cleaning. I removed left and right engine covers. Replaced all oil seals, cover gaskets, clutch discs and added clubman bars.
The problem I am having is at idle the engine is racing to about 5000 rpm. When I choke the engine the idle drops a little lower but not enough to ride. When I unchoke it it revs up to about 6000-7000 rpm. It also sounds like it is running really rich. I did not touch the ignition system or fuel system but I had to unbolt the alternator from the left engine cover to remove it.
Does electrical in the headlight have anything to do with ignition?
Gonna try rebuilding my forks within the next couple of weeks....too damn cold out! I am off to Sweden for work on the 18th so I don't have a lot of time.
