I've see quite a few cafe bike that chop off the headers and tuck them under the engine. I like the look but I wanted to know if it would effect the performance of the engine adversely? Its not going to be a highway bike, just fyi. I've looked through the searches and it seems to be a bit of a gray area. Thanks for the help.

Anytime you modify the exhaust, you have to tune the intake to match. Also, running straight open exhaust can be done, but you'll always have tuning issues. You really need some sort of baffle, or muffler to create the proper backpressure that your motor needs to perform at its best.

Now onto the other issue with running exhaust under the motor like that. It can be done BUT if you do, you NEED to wrap the pipes in header wrap, or build some sort of heat shield. The bottom of your motor is the sump where your oil collects. Running exhaust right up against this will start to cook your oil. When that happens, things break.
