1970 cb350 "wtf is that" Build.

So been way busy at work. havent had much time to work on the bike, id gonna try to have it "done" with in 2 weeks.

I have to...
Finish sub frame chop
Seat
Put on rear tire
replace fork seals (i need to know what kind and how much fluid i need)
make wire harness
batt box/relays
replace lower tree
mount brake light.....well i gotta get one first, prolly gonne use a harley bullet turn signal.

I think thats it, Im kickin around the idea of usein this mountian bike shock for my seat. But the problem is that its reeeeeaaaalllly stiff. Anybody know if i heat it with a torch will it soften?

Here is a pic, i gave it a quick paint job

can you wind out the bottom perch any further?
otherwise you could rewind the spring - heat it up, stretch it out, cut it to length again?

yeah the shock looks like it has a lot of adj but it dont. i have it just seated.

but the spring still has tension? you might be able to grind the top and bottom of the spring a little, or the seats the spring sits on.
i'd be tempted to look for a better match instead though

Yeah that would be nice but this one was FREE!!!!!!!! im gonna try to heat it up and strech it out.

Just build a pivot system for it and dial in the mechanical advantage that feels the best...

That is if you want to have a kinda weird lever action seat on your bike... :-\ :p

dude i love over do things.....but it will have to wait till winter, i need to ge this thing done!

I'd pass on heating it, it'll lose it's point of temper and while it may hold you up for a while, each bump will mash it further and further...

An old roadracer trick I learned...from an old road racer of all people (!!)

take your spring and grind a series of flats along the sides. Start with 3 or 4 equally spaced around the spring. What this does is effectively reduce the wire gauge, thus softening the spring. As long as you keep them evenly spaced you don't run into problems with the spring bowing out under pressure,
You can also grind the entire outer 'face' off the spring and it'll look uniform that way, just a bit more difficult to judge how much you've taken off.

I've actually designed and fabricated a seat system like the one you're doing. The one I did went on a friend's hard tail chopper. We designed so that it got progressively stiffer as it went through the arc. I didn't go all out rocket science or anything on it, and the progression curve is really steep, but he likes it.

That spring rate is likely in the 500-1000lbs range. What you do is use mechanical advantage to make it work.

Yeah I like when thinks a round about way of doing something.

I posted this in the for sale section also but i figured id put it here also.

The light is BRAND NEW. Has run and brake also have gasket that goes between light and fender I was goning to run a reat fender but have changed my mind. It was black then I hit it with a few coats of paint (flat black and primer) with some sanding to make it look old. Id like to get $30 shipped.

The ole skate deck seat pan, quickly becoming a top mod for DTT bobs and brats! Nice work!

What is the plan for the frame as far as paint?

yes another skate deck but its free and diffrent anyplace then on dtt.

as fas as paint for the frame i dont know, im leaving it how it is for right now half stock paint and raw steel from where it was redone, i dont even think im gonna pull the swing arm back off to finish painting it. I want to ride the bike soooo bad and the clock is ticking for riding here in ohio.

my list of whats left (well till winter comes then ill finish some little things)

Wireing
Drill hole for top shock mounts
Replace trees (has broken pinch bolt)
install new throttle, clutch, brake cables (that all im running)
new fuel lines
new chain
cut and mount seat

i have a question, so im want to run as little wiring as possable, some body have have wiring digram? im only running head lght (only one beam), run/brake light, ign and charging system, and starter (id like to have kick only but it does not catch every time) Im sure i can figure it out but im lazy. haha

oh and for the key i want the first click to be bike on and the second clck to turn on the starter. then ill click it back to one to ride bike. can that be done or will the tme between one and two kill the bike. did you get that???
