1970 Honda CL 350
Hello,
I was hoping maybe someone can help with a question. I am running a fat camshaft on my Honda CB350 but want to make sure that I should be running the 286 marked Sprocket. I am also wondering where I can find one as it been really tough to source on ebay.

Does anyone have one they want to sale?

Thank you.

Miguel

Usually the sprocket remains the same when you go to a new camshaft. The only time you generally use a new sprocket is if you need to change the valve timing.

Ya the reason I need sprocket is cause I had to replace the cam and don't have the correct sprocket so looking for the 286 sprocket.

I'm only seeing one part number in the catalog for the cam gear. Are you sure there's a difference?

From what i have been reading online is that there is a skinny cam and fat cam and that they require different sprockets. There is a 312 and a 286 Marking on the sprockets. The main difference is the bolt alignment to the cam.

Yeah. I'm familiar with the different camshafts. Early Honda 350s had slightly different valve timing. They got a higher redline (10,500 RPM, I think?) and had a little more output.

I wasn't aware the cam gears were different, however.

Have you tried using the gear you have and degreeing the cam to check it?

camshaft sprocket is specific to the fat cam(inner diameter is different,,smaller),,once you source that, you will need the early type rocker arms. I sold a complete set up to a fellow racer who wanted to upgrade from a skinny...he was more than happy to give me 200 CDN pesos...do you really need this cam,,, good luck on your build

there are actually 3 different 350 honda cams
fat cam 286 code was on the first year or 2? of all 350's including the SL350ko i believe
this cam has a specific rocker arm that has a slightly different pad profile and has more "reach", you could call it, so as to work with the fat cams overall smaller diameter
also needs the 286 sprocket
then they went to the 312 code cam which is slighty milder and has a larger base circle and a larger cam sprocket register
this also requires its own rocker less "reach" and a slighly more curved pad
then you have the SL350 cam from 1970 on this uses the same rocker as the 312 code but is a very mild cam with no overlap and slightly less duration
