1971 CL350 fork lowering

the 1971 CL350 fork has the tapered tubes and external springs so no easy way to lower them that i can see. Anyone have any experience with this that can shed light on what I can do? I've read Woody's lowering description but unfortunately that is for 1972 and later forks. Should i just swap these forks out for a 1972+ set and go about doing the Woody method? Any other ideas? Thanks.

Cheers,
Jason

just to clarify, only looking to lower .75-1" MAX. The bike is for my girlfriend and i was planning on lowering it about 1" all around to better fit her. For that small amount, would I be fine with cutting the external spring? The honda manual lists the stock length at 8.27" and calls for replacement 7.72" so it seems that about .5" at the least should be fine.

Fit 18" wheel instead of 19" with a 3.00 tyre instead of 3.25
Cutting spring makes it stiffer
