1971 Honda CB 500 Four K1: An Attempt at a Racer

"Man is born free, and he is everywhere in chains"
Two years ago today I became a member of the prestigious Do The Ton Forum. After years of not owning a vehicle I came into this dream machine that forever changed my life. I originally had every intention of restoring this motorcycle, but as my knowledge and love for vintage motorcycles grew, all I want to do now is create as much performance as my ignorance, finances, and tool collection will allow me.

Here's major changes and maintenance I've made to the bike thus far:

Rebuilt carbs (larger mainjet and using last notch on needle clip)
Replaced Piston Rings
Installed New, Kibblewhite valves
Replaced all top end gaskets and O-rings in the top end
Corrected Timing Issues
Vacuum Synced Carbs
Replaced engine bolts with Allen Head sets
Relaced & trued my wheels
Replaced Tires with Bridgestone Excedra G535
Installed new gearing (17 front, 37 back)
Replaced Airbox with UNI Pods

Below is the bike in its current state. My goal is to get as close to a Kott bike as possible while maintaining performance.

I'm redoing the front end and in doing so I've added clip ons, I am consolidating all my controls into one emgo switch (start, high/low/, and kill), replaced old cylinder with some aftermarket rip-off of the stock one, added a Billet triple tree bridge, repacked bearings in the steering stem, and I thinned out my wiring harness.

Current/ passing issues:
I'm currently trying to get what remains of my old fork seal out by soaking them in acetone.
I'm testing my new harness on my stock controls first and so far my kill and start switches aren't working. High/low is good.

If you want, watch this video for a visual of my electrical issues.

I finally have my front end back together. Thanks to Sparck Moto for helping wire up my new emgo controls. Now I just need to get the front brake back on and up my main jet size as I'm still getting a little sputter at WOT.

Front brake cleaned and reassembled. Now, to put stock finder back on or not?

I did notice some chatter in the forks, so I will throw it back on. Plus, the stock fender is so damn classy looking. Also, cornering this bike just became so much easier, almost too easy. Rearset setup on the way.

Update:

Got my carbs tuned (still need to test on the highway but I think it'll be fine).

With a busted 4-2 exhaust, UNI pods, and stock 627B carbs, I used a 110 main jet and put the needle clip on the middle setting. So far it's pulling nicely all the way to WOT.

Has anyone used any airtech seats or tanks? Whats the word on them?

Got some great info from all the fellas on this fine site. Check this thread for what it is in store for my engine.
