Starting a new build as I just finished my last one. This one will be a classic cafe with more of a vintage look. I just started it this week so I will post pictures as I go. Might try my hand at tank denting on this one, but we will see.

Stripped the tank only to find that someone at some time decided to put about 2" of bondo to fill a dent. I am not going to deal with repairing it so I pulled my 550 tank off the shelf to see what it looks like, and I was surprised to say that I really love it. The lines flow better for the tail I am going to make. I will need to modify the mounting points a bit to make it sit like I have in the pictures and I went ahead and tried my hand at tank denting. I am pleased with the outcome.

Relocated the tabs for the front of the tank and also made a bracket for the rear. Welded on a rear hoop and I also made my seat pan mold and will glass it tomorrow.

Re: 1972 CB 450 Build "The Gentleman"

So after just looking at it for a week, I am ditching the fiberglass tail and starting from scratch. I am taking a different approach to it this time.

Assembly has started. Got new sealed bearings for the stem and shaved down the bar mounts. Cleaned the garage as well :)

This is going to be a classic build....nice. Seat frame is cool, be interested to see the final result.

Some nice work, but looks like you will have a serious problem with rear tire clearance. This bike will respond very poorly to increasing the rear ride height by using longer shocks and stiffer springs. I have one.

Re: 1972 CB 450 Build "The Gentleman"

Thanks for the concern, but I have 2.75" of clearance and 2.5" of shock travel.

2nd start after adjusting the rebuilt carbs. Will need to re adjust when my mufflers come in. Still waiting on new forks to come in also as mine had some pitting in them and I want to have polished bottoms. https://vimeo.com/148909661
