1972 CB750four Cafe/Brat Build

You would think these guys would have seen an unfinished project before.....
Ha. You usually don't see the Instagram, staged photos until the end of the build. The bike was kinda presented as a finished bike, although it's now clear it is not. That said, if you're going with stock spring rate consider the clearance. In the factory service manual it's stated to be 3.3in (85mm) at the swing arm and 5.5in (160mm) at the forks. You're not giving yourself even close to either.

I have the 11-1/2" shocks on mine, and the forks are only about an inch up in the trips.

It rides ok for me..........I don't try to lean into curves or set speed records.

I ordered Carpys 4into1 exhaust system, I'm assuming the original header screws are to short an won't work, says on Carpys website MX35mm bolts are recommended, what do you guys recommend? Studs/bolts/size.. Online? Local HW store?

Thanks for the help

My local ace hardware had some nice stainless hex caps that worked for me. M6 x icantremember. But there was enough of a selection there to choose from.

Thanks for the advice! I've got an ace right down the street

Front tire: 3/25-19 (100/90-19)
Rear tire: 130/90-16

These are my current tire sizes,

Thought about a dual sport tire, love the way they look, but can't really find any for that 16" rear wheel.. Anyone know of anything out there? Obviously a pair of matching brand tires is out of the questions so a pair of tires that may look good together is a possibility..

Or maybe some recommendations, wouldn't mind going a hair larger either

Go with whichever one you think will look best in a crash report.

I sure hope you address the rear suspension. I really don't wanna see ya get hurt man.

A bigger tire is going to make it worse.130 is already larger than stock for your bike. (I'm pretty sure on that anyway) Enduro tires on street bikes are for looks. That's nice if you're painting a picture. You sure won't be doing any off roading with that bike so I guess I don't see the relavance of off road tires, which in my opinion would make it look silly.

Looks like you do nice work. Its just the engineering and application that needs some adjustment.

That's what he's saying. First time you bottom out the rear, you're gonna trash that nice fender/tail light/probably seat

Did you know that in addition to water and rocks in your face, your bike will handle much worse than it did stock and wear out the forks if you don't run a front fender?

Are you 4'1" or do you just like the way the bike looks when the seat is 22" off the ground?

I'm not being a dick for no reason. The first paragraph is fact based and the second is just a question.

The front fender mounting bracket is made of a heavy stamped steel for the purpose of stabilizing the fork legs... Chances are you wont loose control without it if you are skilled, but you certainly won't gain any. It is very obvious the tire will rub riding over bumps and really dig in on steep drives at any speed.

Cause and effect man. Good news is you can remedy all of the misses as you go along if it's a personal ride, nothing is completely permanent.

I gotcha! Advise taken! I'll see what changes I can make! The rear shocks have a few adjustments where I can raise a bit, I'll try that for now. If it's not enough after riding it I'll switch to 12". I'll chop the front fender to be smaller but still hold its purpose. Thanks for the friendly advise guys

I don't plan on racing this bike or taking super sharp turns.. Just a cruiser for around town.

What do you guys think of these tires?

I have a set of those if the right size I'll sell em shipped for $150

You're not gonna bawl for three pages about our suggestions? Well shit that really took the wind outta my sails.

I realize you think you're not gonna ride it much, but think about this:

You're in a curve at 40 and decide to get the g-force sensation. Don't even try to front, it'll happen. So you hammer down in this curve, sending a bunch of weight to the ground, and to the rear. There's a little dip in the curve that you didnt see, as will happen in real life, as opposed to an artistic rendition of a hipster sweeping effortlessly through a mountain curve, and that dip is going to try to kill you. Its going to send your tire into the fender, EASILY with your setup, and you're gonna lose traction instantly, tear your tire in half, and possibly wreck and die. And thats not the worst that could happen.

The tire rubbing the fender, ya ya, its no big deal when riding around, but in a curve it'll end your life dude.

There is a reason the manufacturers set the ride height where they do. Honestly that model shouldn't be lowered at all.

Those tires are 1960 technology. Why do you not want to take advantage of the great offerings that will ENHANCE performance instead of hinder it?

Not necessarily, he has his own mind I hope.

But, out of curiosity, why are you selling them :)

They were picture tires I got cheap, then the bike needed to get rode and got a set of Dunrops.
