1972 Honda CB750

Just picked this gem up today,

Been sitting for a while, has aftermarket 4 into 2 header thats in decent shape, looks like it mainly needs a LH control switch, LH side cover (tab is broke off and has a big crack) and the 750 four emblems.

thats the major stuff, the minor stuff is paint the tank, re foam and recover the seat, re paint the header, clean and rebuild carbs and throw a set of clubmans on..

No super big cafe plans for the bike, would like to use it for a daily driver and be able to take the wife on the back, so i will be keeping the stock seat length and shape, no rear sets or fiber glass seats.

What I will be changing is the turn signals, converting to a dual disc up front (came with the other disc, just need a caliper and mount)

Will be doing a light motor build, consisting of just a freshened up top end and a mild cam. Priced out a new 4 into 1 header, 500 bucks, will see how the 4into2 sounds and performs first.

No pictures tonight, it was dark when i unloaded it

So, first things first, strip the bike down to bare essentials and attempt fire up.

This includes:

Change engine oil and filter
New spark plugs and boots
Drain fuel tank and flush
Remove carb rack - tear down and clean/inspect

After I confirm a fire up, then the fun can begin

-Polishing wheels (they dont look too terrible that they might come back up almost perfect)
-cleaning entire engine cases
-Changing out the rusted out handle bars for either clubmans or super bars

After that, and its a decent runner, then i can pull motor from bike, paint frame, header, and tidy up everything

Pictures tomorrow

Bike runs !

Tore the carbs apart, installed new everything
Ran 2 bottles of Evaporust into the tank and let it sit for awhile
Checked all the electrical, hooked up the new battery and starter turned over and all lights worked minus the turn signals dont flash.

Flushed the tank of all the Evaporust, filled with fresh high test, turned over a few times, fired, tried again and it was running and running mint !

Sounds pretty mean with the 4 into 2 exhaust, but I will be putting a 4 into 1 on it.

Heres some pictures:

Took it for a little scoot around the block, had thrown a used clutch perch on it, but wouldnt adjust properly so it was slipping.

I would like to see some pictures of some stock coloured 1972 CB 750 tanks and side covers.

I am going to go with original colours, but adding a little cafe fairing in the same colour, a small plastic front fender painted to match with dual disk front end and a small little cat eye fail light.

This bike will not get too much chopping done, the wife needs to ride on the back until i get another newer bike to ride 2 up, then it will get drop bars and a fiber glass seat.

Rode the snot out of it on the weekend, the euro bars sucked, way un comfortable,\

So I grabbed a set of my old clubmans from the rafters, gave them a polish, and then threw them on

Looks heaps better and rides alot nicer

Next things to go on
-new 4 into 1 exhaust
-new seat pan
-re paint and one new side cover

Good score, and glad to hear that getting her running good was no huge chore. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Thanks,

Body work should be starting in the next month or so, having the guy who painted my two Kawi Triples do the body work and paint it.

First or last look good. third is a copy of a popular style from back in the day - may look a little dated, but works.

If you ditch the front fender, remember to fit a fork brace to stop those skinny legs twisting too much.

Tough decision. I could see all of them working. The seat with the pronounced cafe bump has nice lines to it.

By the third one, are you meaning the pleated one?

I am not ditching the front fender, just merely changing it to a slightly smaller one, if I go plastic I will fit a fork brace (if I can find a good one cheap)

Well, its time to send the tank off to the body shop, I ordered re pop side covers and they will be sent over the same time as the tank for matching paint.

Torn between two colours:

2010 Camaro Synergy Green (same as my Kawasaki H1)

or Ford Ranger Blue

Both fenders will be painted black, the only chrome on the bike will be the handle bars, valve cover, and a few odds and ends on the bike. Tank will have the Honda emblem removed and smoothed over with black pin striping, the old style Honda wing with the HM on the bottom. The bike is also going to have the 'period' cafe fairing, the fairing itself will be colour matched, with the original smoked windshield.

Let me know what you think!
