1973 Honda CB350 G Wiring Problems

I have been trying to get the running tail light to come on while my low beams and or high beams are switched on. So far I've had no luck and I went around that problem last night by putting another line into the brown (tail light). This brown connecter is in my headlight and the diagram shows it doesn't go to another but at the same time when I put a line that is pushing electricity it comes on. I'm not sure where the problem is but at this point I would just rather wire it so that its always on when the bikes on.

how would I go about directly wiring it to a power source?

If I remember right, the ignition key has a setting for either headlamp on or off? Almost like a Parking lamp setting on your car. Maybe you just have the ignition key in the wrong position.
(Also assume you mean a 350 F)

Its a two cylinder, not the F. just a G, last year model, front disc brakes.

Ok, well I understand the different ignition points. Red is power, and blue is where the parking brake come on. I get that but then is my question do I even need a running brake light?! Did bikes back in the day have a running brake light or is that just reserved for the standing position. I'm trying to get this brake light going when I'm in Red.

that loose brown wire, AFAIK, was/is for the Euro Spec bikes that have a low wayy parking light in the headlight. Even my CB360 has it.

do you have a cb350 schematic?

The empty brown connector is shown on the attached schematic, in the center near the top....

You must have a loose connection somewhere, The Brown wire comes right off the ignition switch....Check at the ignition switch and see if the brown wire has 12V when the key is "on"...If not, your ignition switch might need cleaning or repair. The can be taken apart and cleaned....I've done mine.

I do have the schematic, and so that's just for the front headlight huh... so it shouldn't be powered by anything? When I plug a power source into it, it lights the back. I haven't checked the ignition. I feel like if it could light it from the front brown wire it should be working going all the way through. I suppose some kind of low voltage could be happening without having another power source. I'll check the ignition area

Look at the schematic. Of you put 12v on that wire, it is a direct line to the taillight.

Ok, so I'm confused. The running tail light will run when the ignition is in blue. I know its supposed to be running when I have my low beams and high beams on but I'm not sure where I need to be looking for these wires to connect to turn the running tail light on.

These brown wires are for your tail light (and sometimes) the backlights on your gauges. They probably shouldn't be cut.

I cut them test if I was getting a current through them. The top one goes to my ignition and it is getting power, and the bottom goes into my headlight but isn't connected to anything. The one on the right connects to my taillight. I'm getting power when the bike is on the blue ignition switch but on the red I can't get the taillight to come up. Which is supposed to come on when I put on my LB or HB. My brake lights work, just having trouble with the running tail light.

I also am running this new headlight on the bike.

With a 12V H4 - 60/55w bulb if that helps...

you cut the wire to test them out? do you have a multimeter? that's going to go a long way in helping you diagnose issues, and you can avoid needing to cut wires...

That headlight pulls way too much wattage for your bike. You'll kill the battery after a while.

Look for something in the 35W range.
