1974 CB360 build... just getting started!

Got my frame back today :) Needs to have some spots here and there smoothed out and filed down, but all the major welding is done.

With all the gusseting in, this frame should be super stiff. I'm looking forward to it :)

Also made a great friend in my welder; he let me have a go with his tig welder laying down a bead. SOOOO much easier than I thought it was going to be; he also said that as long as I pay for material, I'm welcome to use his shop and learn to do it myself whenever I'd like. Sometimes, it feels really amazing to find good people in this world. :)

Man I hope that is where you want those rear sets, I know I'm a short guy that would stretch me out a bit.

Other than that it looks great.

Unless your over 6ft, you'll probably find footrests are a little too far back.
I'm using original passenger mount and probably should move footrests forward about an inch for maximum control (I'm 5'11")
It is really comfortable where they are now though so I probably won't bother for street bike, if I ever get round to finishing 'track bike' I'll put footrests where they should be for me ;)
Bracing looks good, did you put a brace across frame under tank mount where the tubes are crimped?
Your going to have to do swing arm as well as it will feel really flexible with frame braced up (and you'll probably need to upgrade forks, 37mm from Suzuki GS500 if you can find a set)
Modern USD forks would also work, your building a full on race frame 8)

Thanks frogman!

I mocked them up with zip ties so that the pegs sit where the passenger pegs do; with clubmans, I felt kinda cramped. I'll try it for now and if it's the bike feels a bit squirrely, I'll move them forward some. (I'm 5'10" so it might be for the best)

No, I didn't put a brace there, though I did think about it. Should I?

How exactly would I go about bracing the swingarm? Cut it, sleeve it, and re-weld it?

Forks: I've been keeping an eye open for a deal on something a bit better. GS500 forks sound like a plan to me. I also saw this Thread where JayfromJay fit a ninja front and rear. I kinda really like it....

I'm not building it specifically to race, but I would like to be able to take it to a track and just rail on it.

I bought a 250 Ninja front end, 36mm legs
Top bearings are much bigger than Honda ones, will probably swap stem from 360
Footrests too far back make bike very stable and really improve your 'six pack', much easier to keep it in a straight line.
Moving footrests further forward allows you to use more pressure on them when cornering
I would brace frame under front section, in fact I've been making some box section pieces to weld into mine.
As for swing arm, take a look at what Rocan did to his, then, take a look at AHRMA specifications and do it properly ;D .
I can't find links I had on my wife's computer (her's is the only one with a working printer ;) )

I used the stock CB bearing cup that sits in the stem and had the center cut to clear the Ninjas stem. Works like a charm. The back is a little more tricky, requiring the caliper mount to be machined on the outside to get the wheel centered and I'm still working out what to do about the rear sprocket. Machining the sprocket mount pedestals seems like the best option. I can tell you just as a roller, shes' loooowwwwww!

Quick reply before bed, but more to come tomorrow:
A guy I know is parting out a wreck '02 ninja 250, so after trading my little harbor freight mig welder, i ended up with
Front wheel w/ rotor and extra rotor
Rear wheel w/rotor and sprocket
Rear axle
Both calipers
Forward and rear master cylinders
Rearsets (they look like hell though... broken and rewelded at some point)
Passenger pegs to use for my mini bike :D
Rear swingarm

So, for another 15 bucks, he's holding the upper/lower triple tree with ignition and bent forks for me. If I can get him to find them, I'm still going to try to get the wheel spacers for the rear wheel and also the clutch perch to match the brake perch.

So hmmm.... looks like I may be buggin you a lot jayfromjay....

The front end could not be more simple. The rear is gonna be more tricky. I'm in!

Which bearing did you use? I've got the all balls tapered set; I don't have the triple yet to see if they fit the stem myself.

Haha... Any one got an extra upper steering neck bearing cup? Mine have been misplaced.

I used the stock ball bearings (19 top/ 20 bottom, I think or vise versa ) . i know I should have used the tapered cone type but I'm poor and I had the ball bearings. You have to use the Cb upper cup that sits in the head tube as the Ninja one is like .06 too small. The Cb cup will need about an 1/8" taken out of the center to clear the Ninja stem and then as they say, badda bing, badda boom!
Another issue I've run into is my 360 had internal wiring and the clip on's don't have provisions for that so now I've got to run them over to the machine shop and get them milled.

You mean the wiring through the stock handlebars? I'm using my own clip ons with the ninja controls; I have to ebay a clutch perch, forks, and a new axle. Little by little I'll get all the parts together though.

Does anyone think that a Katana 600 front end and rear wheel would look good? The wheels are pretty damn wide, especially the rear. I sat down with ye ol' napkin and pen today to think it out... I could do it if I build up a new swingarm. Wishful thinking for the moment, as my roommate has some katana 600 wheels that I LOVE the look of.

Build is looking good. I am building a 360 myself and am using the tapered bearings. I will get you a part # when I get home. I also am getting ready to build my own rearsets. I shaved off the passenger peg mounts allowing me to set my personel ride angle.

It was pretty easy to fit a Katana fork to 360, just grind out weld on both bottom yokes and weld Honda into Suzuki
I'm using CB350 wheels though, I really don't think Katana wheels would look right
Not sure rear will fit as it's pretty wide overall?
I may try sometime in future though.
It will definitely look weird with 17" wide front and stock rear

Im using aftermarket clip ons that the previous owner put on with the stock CB controls.

My stock cb controls corroded inside, so no worky. I bought a Baja universal control setup for switches, some cheap clipons that are surprisingly nice and solid (they're 33mm though... when i get the new forks I'm going to mill them out to 36mm), and originally planned on using uber cheap controls and levers. With the Ninja front though I'm just gonna use the ninja controls one the chinese clip ons. should look sweet.

Right now I'm looking at getting some ninja forks when I get more $. All I have of the Suzuki stuff is wheels... so I'd need to find axles, spacers, rotors, calipers, sproket, build the swingarm, the works... Ninja stuff should be easier right now.

Ninja forks look a lot more work to fit than the Suzuki ones
I got a set off eBay a few months ago but haven't tried fitting them yet
Top yoke on Ninja is also damn ugly so I'm probably going to make a new one (when I can afford the material  )
