Re: 1974 cb360 - "del sol"

So here she sits as of this morning's mock up session. I'm thinking I need to lower the headlight a bit. My new tires, tubes, and rim strips will all be here Monday from Dennis Kirk. Got a good deal on some kenda challengers. Rims will be a "graphite" color from Rustoleum with some kind of accent around the edge. Still debating the accent strip. I made the electronics tray out of 22ga steel and covered the inside and outsite with stop-leak rubber coating. I'll eventually scrape a section down the bare metal to mount my new rectifer and regulator. Next thing is to finish the wheels and move onto fabricatingg my seat.

Very nice work!
Would you mind posting a picture of the electronics tray?

Anyway, your 360 is looking great.
How did she run before the teardown?
Have you done any motor work other than cleaning it up?

Re: 1974 cb360 - "del sol" Teaser

The motor ran great before the tear down. I rode it for about 25 miles around my neighborhood checking shifting and revving it out and it sounded and shifted good. It only had 3,600 miles on it when I bought it a couple of months ago for $400. I'll attached a pic of what it looked like when I got it as well as the electronics tray. The tray itself is 22ga steel with aluminum angle at the corners revited to the steel. I checked the valve clearances and point gaps with my feeler gauges and everything check out so far. I also got the carbs put back together last night and installed.

I had to take apart the whole front end again in order to replace the fork dust boots and to install my clipons.

Need to order K&N black pods from DCC and also figure out upgrading my electronics. I will be building a brand new wiring harness because I want to and because I have time to learn before riding season. Will be getting a new ford F150 1975 regulator and a rectifier from Digikey.

The seat will be fiberglass. Need to put flower foam on frame and start shaping, maybe this week. It will be a very short seat that will go just past the frame in the back.

The front wheel is cleaned and primed as I won't be painting it until I get the new tire installed. Its serving as a light holder right now.

Re: 1974 cb360 - "del sol" Teaser

Here is my "shop." Its a 10x20 area in the front of my garage that is fully insulated and now has both a woodburner and a 240v electric heater. I built up a "stage" so to speak to keep everything off the cold concrete in the winter. Plus it keep ME off the cold concrete and therefor less irritable when the wife comes out to share her life wisdom. I ran cable out there too but am yet to hook up a tv. Also started making my rearsets. This is a rough shifter. I will sand down and put some kind of design into them. Just trying to get the functionality down right now. I was debating putting a bearing in them but then read it would be easier to just put a bushing in there at the pivot point. Any thoughts? I have a bearing that fits a 1/2" bolt perfectly but can't get a hole saw to drill a good hole to press it into.

Re: 1974 cb360 - "del sol" Teaser

So here is my wiring diagram as it came off my bike. I took apart the harness wire by wire and it doesn't differ too much from the drawings I have from the manuals or online. A few changes here and there but overall matches pretty good. I will be ditching the turn signals but will be keeping most everything else.

Re: 1974 cb360 - "del sol" Teaser

Ok so my K&N pods came in from DCC. I also received my new chain, new grips, new spark plug caps, throttle, and new shifter side linkage for my rearsets (from fast from the past). I have been completely dragging my feet on putting my rear wheel on for some reason. That was my only goal for the weekend and I failed. The only thing I got done on this beast was the start fabricating the seat out of sheetmetal. I plan on covering the whole thing with fiberglass when I'm done. My rearsets are still in the works, the shifter works real well but I still need to make them look nicer and not home-made. I did last week get my front wheel cleaned, new tire/tube mounted, and the rim painted with "graphite" by Rustoleum, color isn't exactly what I wanted but close enough for now. I went an entire summer without a bike last year, no way thats happening again.
