1974 Honda CB360 Garage Find Cafe Build

I can understand the desire to ride! Lex is having perfect riding weather right now. We'll have to burn up some back roads when we're up and running before its 90 degrees everyday!

I'm dying to get this thing completed, but my undiagnosed OCD won't let me skimp on anything. Already thinking of the next build though (my wife hates the idea). Gotta do another Honda with a few more CC's...

Wiring up your bike shouldn't be too bad. The PO, while no electrical engineer, put together a simple wiring harness for headlight and taillight only. He just needed to add a fuse... He had an SPDT switch for the headlight so it could be started with the headlight off to not drain the battery. Then a simple front brake switch to actuate the rear tail. If I get a chance, I'll try to sketch out a diagram for us both.

That sounds absolutely spot on for what I'm wanting to do with the wiring. In my effort to make more progress after a 14 hour work day I just royal F'd up my speedo housing. Getting in a hurry is always the slowest way of doing something....

Just went bats#!t crazy on dime city and ordered a basket of goodies. I hope it gets here in time for a weekend of sweet, sweet bike love....I mean working in the basement. Also picked up a set of Tarozzi low rise clip ons from fast from the past as well. While not my first choice (wanted the standard set), they seem to be sold out everywhere and I will def be pleased with these. Dime city should be dropping some cables, mini speedo/tach, headlight brackets, grips, throttle assembly, blah blah blah....pics to follow.

Looks like all my goodies will arrive Friday for a big weekend of work. Im hoping to walk out of the workshop on Saturday night a very happy guy. My good friend, mechanical mentor, and drinking buddy Justin brought over some polishing supplies and a buffer. He told me how simple it was to do and then started telling me all the ways I could screw it up. After sitting on that for a couple days, being scared out of my gourd, I decided it wasn't worth messing up this paint job I had worked so hard on to get right with freakin' rattle cans. I took it back over to him yesterday along with the tank and seat for him to do. MAN...am I glad I let him do that. I thought the stuff looked good before but after he got done with it...AMAZING. I am going to pick it up today but just from his iPhone pictures you can see the reflection of all the tress and light bouncing off of it. I can't believe how good he got it looking.

I did make a little more progress last night. I'm trying to lay out a good plan for the wiring so I spent some time at Radio Shack and then at Five Guys thinking about it. I was able to find switches and lights like I wanted and here is what I did with them. I also painted the headlight as it was looking pretty ruff.

Did you glue the rubbers into top yoke?

I've always found that gluing my rubbers on never really helped much :p

All jokes aside, I did not. I pushed the rubbers in and then the lights. the lights fit just perfect with a little bit of resistance that push on the walls of the rubbers. It fit in there really snug but I can't speak for how that is gonna perform when I roll down to the tap room doing 60.

****PJ. I just saw on one of your threads you had something like this going on with your bike. What did you use to fabricate your dash? I am doing something to that effect with mine but I'm a little clueless when it comes to metal fab. Also, looks like you mounted the turn indicators just as I have done. Did you fab those cool inserts? Looks way better than just dropping the rubbers in there.

Yep, I made some tapered plugs, machined to fit flush mount LED's
The 'dash' is something I threw together quick to get bike finished for DCC opening last year.
It's just a piece of 1/8" thick 2" wide aluminium angle with some holes drilled and LED's epoxied in (and a bigger hole for ignition switch)
I'm going to make a different (nicer) one when I make new headlight brackets
Here's pic so people don't have to go hunting for it

Dumb question but is everything just kinda hanging out the bottom side or does the aluminum bend over the front to hide things?

It does, that's why I used angle.
Not sure if I have a pic from the front
The front was roughly shaped around back of headlight but I ended up chopping a section from headlight shell.
It's a rough hack job ;)

Gotcha. I'll be doing something to that effect. I'll try not to screw it up to bad.

Got the tank and seat back from polishing and they look phenomenal. I could not be happier with how the painting turned out. I got lots of goodies in on friday and got to work. Here is what I got accomplished in the very short weekend and it is really starting to come together and look like a bike again! The gauge mounts I fashioned out of aluminum turned out perfect and feel really firm with the stand offs. I also was able to get the head light housing painted and cleared.

Well...Not sure that I'm proud of what I did here but I sure do like it! I've never been one to match things, not even socks but this time it just felt right. It is not perfect but it sure is close. The picture actually gives the two colors a little more contrast but out in person out in the sun you almost cant tell a difference. Also, these new Custom 500 helmets fit perfect and feel amazing. Great profile and excellent build quality.

Let's see pics of that pOlished tank

Since your avatar is the bees knees I will take the tank out in the sunshine today and grab a good pic with my SLR. You won't believe its rattle 100% rattle can....unless your cool and not a 100% purist...

While stumbling around the laundry room this morning trying to find pants that did not have oil/grease on them so I could go to work, I was inspired to get all new cables for the bike....Anyone know whee to pick these up other than Slingshot Cycles? They are not taking orders right now.
