1974 Yamaha TX-500.....Rebuild time!!

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

This thing is coming along quickly! I like it.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Should be picking up frame by the first of next week. I want to get it painted (Im going with black appliance epoxy) and the wheels and tires trued and mounted before I leave for 7 weeks. That's the goal at least. I just want to be riding the damn thing by fall.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

More good stuff in today. New rims and SS spokes. Got them laced up tonight.

Also picked up more steel sheet and 1/2" brass strips. Iam hoping to make some cool side covers.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Dude,
Rims look badass.
I'm jealous.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Thanks. I couldnt believe both rims were bent when i got the bike. First time I have ever had to buy nrw rims. Saved me from having to paint them black. :D

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

I got the frame back today. All media blasted. Started painting kickstands with black appliance epoxy. Im welding on the seat loop tomorrow.

Last pic is another inspiration bike I think is just badass! I may have to ditch the bates style headlight I was going to run. Not sure yet. Need to figure out mounting options.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Heh. That bike is on my inspiration list as well.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Ground down some plugs to fit. Welding loop on tomorrow.

I think this will be about it until I get back from training. It will be butt ass hot by the time I get to finish things up. Stock carbs are shot, going to go with VM32's.

I was hoping so. What sucks is I just sold two new VM32's 6 months ago. Didn't think I would need them.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Sick business, dude.... how are you just PUMPING out bike like this? hahaha

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500- Loop on and frame painted.

Loop is on, frame is painted. The last two builds I powdered the frames. I actually like this appliance epoxy. I used it on my XL250 build in the SS color. Turned out nice.
Also new bearings in the stem and put the forks on with new seals/dust covers and fresh paint.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

OK, just got out of the 7 week long Corrections Academy and started working on the bike again. Just got the wheels trued and tires mounted and put on the bike. The tires are wider than I expected but look like they fit fine.

Picking up a 2002 Triumph Tiger on Sunday so I will have a good bike to ride while working on others.....damn excited about it.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Well sum bitch.....a cb360 rear fender bolts right up and looks nice on the rear end. Going to polish it up and get the rear tail light mounted.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Rear fender and tail light are mounted. The cb360 fender basically bolted right up on this frame. Crazy how easily some things work out.

And also my new edition to the stable. 2002 Triumph Tiger. Now at least I can always be riding while working on these bikes.
