1975 CB200T Cafe Build

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

Makes me want to throw mine down in disgust and walk away.

On the other hand, I could just steal these ideas?

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

Steal as many ideas as you want. ;D I just got my rearsets from motobits, super high quality. Should have the brackets for them fabbed and welded to the frame monday. Working on lacing up the wheels now. More pictures coming soon.

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

MAN, just when I was thinking my motor was nice and pretty, you had to come along and ruin it! ;D

Nice work seriously. That looks the titties for sure.

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

looks great! cant wait to see what else this build brings

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

Ok have a little bit of an update, just got my wheels laced back up and am really happy with the results. I powder coated the rims red and the spokes black. Then i polished the center hubs and the spoke nipples. I think it looks pretty cool.

Then i decided that i didn't want to reuse the stock battery box. I found a nice sealed lead acid battery that is small enough to lay on its side under the seat with a little tray I made.

The battery is only a 5 Ahr 12v battery rather than the 9 Ahr stock battery but i think is should work just fine. I also have the rearset brackets made and i just need to weld those and the battery tray in then the frame is ready to be powder coated.

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

I love updates on this build. I just have to ask...... is that battery going to be ok on it's side? Like I said, just gotta ask

Are you still using the electric start? If you are then it might give that battery a run for the money. Those wheels look great BTW!

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

Yeah the info on the battery states that it should work in any orientation. I would like to use the electric start but if it doesn't work out with the battery I will remove the starter and just run the kick start. The battery only cost $25 shipped so If it all together doesn't work im only out a little. I will also will be adding led lights for the brake lights, turn signals, and a lower wattage head light as well as a headlight off switch. more to come....

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

That's what I assumed when you said "sealed" but just wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna leak acid on your scoot!

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

DIGGIN the red hoops! I am debating between red or black for mine. Can't wait to see these with some rubber on them and on the bike!

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

...OK well i got the battery in the mail today and decided to bench test the batteries ability to turn over the engine. Good news it turned the engine over with a lot of authority. Of course the battery is not running the lights and points but I think that the battery will work well.

As far as the finding tires for the wheels i am having a problem finding newer sport tires. The stock tires are 2.75x18 in the front and 3.0x18 in the rear. Does anyone have any experience putting newer sport tires on the older stock rims. Ideally, I would like to put a little wider tires on if possible. Any suggestions??

Ive got the same size rims on my CB125T and the last i looked into it, Avon makes a roadrider that will fit, front and back. I dont remember the sizes off the top of my head (gotta use the new MM sizes, not inches), but if you go down to your local shop they should be able to look it up in the book.

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

Pirelli makes some 3.00-18 tires. I believe they are the MT-66 model or something. Check them out at www.denniskirk.com

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

I prefer a skinny on the front. Geussing a wider tire is also taller. So if you do a taller wider at the back, itll give you a more aggressive stance. Cafe racers need that aggressive look. You can match up a wider on front though. Nothing stopping you, except maybe a fender?

Ok finally welded rearset tabs on the frame. I drilled and tapped the holds for the motobits rearsets. The frame is getting the sandblasting and powder coating treatment done tomorrow! I just order new tires, tubes, and tire straps for the wheels and ordered some nice air filter pods. So the fun stuff (reassembly) is going to start happening here soon. Stay tuned for some progress pictures.

everything looks awesome! i have a cb360 i am tearing down to do a bobber job on. if you don't mind i will have some powder coating ?'s for ya. my buddy does some powder coating so i can get the parts done for cost of materials. he's just not what i would call a "pro" but his work looks pretty good.

i'm thinkin definitely hubs, spokes, rims-all black! the powder won't crack on parts like spokes that tend to flex?

Powder has a rubber-ish base to it which makes it slightly flexible. So spokes are no problem. There's actually quite a few people that have gotten their stuff pc'd, so if you asked in the "1800 cafe help" section you would get all kinds of answers.

BigR is right powder is made of polymers that allow the coating to flex much more than paints and other coatings. There aren't to many parts on these bikes you can't powder coat. Feel free to ask any questions you have. Finally got my tires mounts on my wheels and the frame powder coated pictures to come.

Re: 75 CB200T Cafe Build

I'm running a 3.00 front and a 3.50 rear and it seems to work pretty well.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I found These http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=542929&store=&catId=404&productId=p542929&leafCatId=40402 but they are really cheap. Has anyone had any experience with these tires. Also is it a recommended thing to run a size smaller tire in the front or can i run the same size tire in the front and back?
