There is a lot of blow by on those pistons. Definitely going to want new rings, but it will be worth checking the specs on the bore. Might be time for one over?
Here's a piston from my 360 with 12,000 miles on it. You can see that the carbon is only around the piston crown. Nothing tracking down the sides of the piston.

I'm thinking you are right Sonreir. I'm waiting a bit to see if Kop gets his valve grinder machine, I need valve work and at least one new rocker but I'll start looking for somebody to bore the head. Also need to see if the 650SOHC cam I have is really worth using.
Just ordered the neck and front/rear wheel bearings/seals. Suggestions on a good source for the 1 over pistons/rings?
Even though it's supposed to be sealed under the ignition cover you might be right. Looks like a nice unit though. Maybe some more homework on that one.
Had to do brakes on my GMC pickup today. Only thing I got done on the bike was pulling apart the swingarm bushings. That sucker was really in there. Took quite a bit of arguing with the bushings to get them out. I have new bronze replacements going in after clean and paint.
Any words of wisdom, or tips/tricks? I haven't even thought about that yet, but will be doing the bronze bushings over the winter on my 500. Keep at it!
Take it to a machinist. Costs about $20 (per side?) to have them pressed and reamed. You can DIY it, but not worth the cost considering the time and effort. Make sure to bring the swingarm bolt (and spacers if your bike uses them).

There is a machinist pretty close by who advertises his work on CL that I've heard good things about. I'll check with him on the fitting.
My swingarm was slightly different than the one shown in the diagram. No zirc fitting on mine and the (#6) bushing weren't flanged but used spacers instead. The new bronze are identical to the diagram. I also want to add a zirc fitting for lubrication
Yeah. The modified airbox I have bolts to the underside of the yellow cross piece. I knew that if removed, it would have to be strengthened in that area. I'll leave it.
I'm going to see about doing a metal seat pan that can use the existing seat hinge. Or find a good original seat pan. I have the old seat lock but the tumblers are dead.

I've been down with the damn stomach flu for days. It blows. I finally felt well enough to hit the grinder a bit today. Probably shouldn't have but I was getting restless. Have not fully decided on keeping or cutting the center stand.
Also thanks Bruno for the kind offer but I've decided I'm not going with an original style seat setup.
