1975 Honda CB360 Brat style - Growing Up

looks super, are you gonna be able to stuff that 3.25 under the front fender/brace ?

Trek

I did some measuring before I ordered my tires and it should fit. I have a spare fender and brace from a 550 which I may modify to use if I have to.

Hey Guys.

Been a while. Wedding plans have gotten in the way but now I am back at it. I have got a fair bit done in the last couple of weeks. The frame has been sanded down, primed and painted. As well as the triple tree. I installed new steering bearings onto the triple tree. It has been reinstalled on the bike and I decided to mock up the forks and rear suspension to see what I am working with.

Hey Dude! Glad you figured out that bearing issue.. all part of the learning process I guess! I am looking into ordering some Hagon's soon and was wondering what size you went with?

Also, did you install the All Balls steering bearings yourself? Hard to do?

ordering hagons. I suggest sending an email or calling dave quinn. http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/

Tell him what you got and he will tell you exactly what you need. Its that easy. Dudes been building hagons for 28 years. And yes, he really does seem to give a shit. :)

Thanks Trek! Actually been in contact with him already and he gave me instructions on how to measure it exactly. Super nice guy and you're right, he does give a shit. I was just getting ahead of myself because i still have a bit to go until I get the wheels and swing arm together to do the measuring... I'm just impatient haha.. Thanks for the tip man.

Hey Saturdays

Your build is coming along man. The engine work looks fun as hell but scary as hell!! I am very intimidated by it. Most of the guys on here have been telling me to take a look at the cam chain guide/tensioner and overall cam health but, for the most part, just leave the engine alone. It has no leaks and the PO ran it regularly.

As for the steering bearings.....I did them myself. It was a pain in the rear but I got them done. They fit fairly easily into the frame but getting the bottom bearing onto the steam was a problem. After a while, I ended up using my dads hydraulic press to get it into position. I used the smaller of the 2 washers that came with the package.

I bought the 310mm hagons (12.2inches) to match the stock length

Awesome, thanks for the heads up bud. Ya the reason I got so deep into the engine is because I am upgrading a lot of the internals anyway, so it seemed like a no brainer to split the cases, clean and inspect the hell out of everything. To be honest with you, I was shitting man! haha I did NOT want to screw anything up but honestly, now that I've done it I feel really good about it. It's like jumping off that really high diving board at the pool as a kid! lol Scared as hell but you take the plunge only to have your mates give you high fives as you come out of the pool haha.. Anyway, the real challenge will be getting it back together properly which I am confident I can do. Looking to get a professional to help me with it so as not to make any critical errors.

Anyway keep rocking it bud! Can't wait for the meet up at the end.

I'd do the oil mods. These motors have know top end oiling issues and the stock pickup is inadequate for when the bike idles on a kickstand.

I've read about some of the oil mods and was under the impression they were mainly for race applications due to the fact that at high RPM's the plunger froths the oil quite significantly. I wasn't aware it could be troublesome for a stock engine. Do you have any examples of these oil mods? I only know about the ones from Cappellini Moto in Italy: http://www.cappellinimoto.it/index.php?option=com_djcatalog2&view=item&id=10%3A57&cid=1%3Acb250350&Itemid=4&lang=en

You linked a 350 mod.

One of the death knells for the 360 is issues getting oil to the top end. Honda put out a factory service bulletin for an oil pickup upgrade. It was designed to fix an issue with getting oil into the pickup while the bike idled sitting on the side stand. The fix is to install a pickup from the same era CJ360, which has a larger pickup and a different cover design. They slip right in, as the cases are the same.

Another fix to help with flow to the top end is to take a burr bit and open up the orifice in the side cover, as well as the top end. You don't have to go crazy, but take a mil or two out. The hole next to the stud should be a mil larger:

To get better performance from the clutch, drill alternating holes of 3 and 2 in the side of the clutch:

Ahh gotcha! With all the builds I'm following I forget who has what! I forgot Woodsy was working on a 360.. Thanks for the explanation nonetheless! It's cool learning about this stuff.

350 has the same problem for the same reason, oil transfer piece in clutch cover.
My way of fixing it is way cheaper than Cappellini

Here is something interesting I found today.

A completely loose bolt in the top cover. It will not thread into anything. It just sits there. I think it is proper length as I compared it to the other 4 corners and it's identical. It feels like it's too small for the hole it's in. Weird.

Pics will be coming along shortly

More likely threads are stripped out, pretty common occurence.
Helicoils are your friend (if done properly ;) )
