Learning every day
I am starting a hybrid cafe racer project using the suspension from a 1990 Suzuki GSXR 750 (forks, wheels, swingarm and disc brake systems) and mating that to a 1975 Honda CB550F frame and engine. I have seen a few of these projects on the internet and the absolute best in my opinion is one completed by the craftsmen over at Steel Bent Customs (www.steelbentcustoms.com) in Oldsmar, Florida. Steel Bent's 1977 "Inverted" creation is my overall goal and model for my project (http://s1085.beta.photobucket.com/user/mundy888/library/1977%20Honda%20CB550%20Inverted). Mine will have some variations along the way that suit my particular style choices in engine finish, handlebars, fuel tank, electrical systems and seat pan.
I was able to buy all the 1990 GSXR 750 suspension components in my local area for $400 off of Craigslist. I found the CB550F on eBay for $700.00. Unfortunately the CB was over a thousand miles away in Hammond, IN. So I rented a U-Haul trailer and fetched my donor bike and am getting started on this winter project.
