The mailman brought me a present! My Acewell 2701 is here:

That's the same setup I used on my first AHRMA Historic Productin racer. I did use a spacer for preload on the springs and they worked out fine for racing. I did put the gaitors back on mine though.

That's very encouraging! Certainly lends some confidence to keeping them on my street bike. :)

Have I mentioned how much I hate sanding and polishing? Screw this vintage stuff, the next bike will be one of those retro-modern rides with all the bling powdercoated black... ;D

Wheels are trued and ready for tires, brake backing plates and sprocket carrier polished:

I also refurbed some of the odds and ends. Airbox, batterybox, lower triple, and fork springs have now been beadblasted, primed, and painted satin black. BTW, I did not paint the bores on the lower triple, just forgot to remove the tape before the pic.

Just caught up on the build, and I am speechless. You have given me a new appreciation of these little Suzuki scoots. Simply blown away with the quality here.

Re: 1975 Suzuki T500 Frame powdercoated 3/7/11

Got the call from the powdercoater this morning, FRAME DONE! ;D ;D ;D

Of course I rushed over to pick it up. The thing looks even better than new. :)

Re: 1975 Suzuki T500 Frame powdercoated 3/7/11

Beautiful stuff! Honestly the frames on these bikes are awesome. I had the t250 and just couldnt stop staring at the frame. Just begs for some cafe styling. Now that Im looking at picking up a t350, the frame is my biggest draw to it.

And ya, I know theyre not exactly the same across the range, but similar.

damn man, that looks slick. is it a dark gray or black? looks almosts like a graphite color, may just be the pics. Everytime I see your zuki progress pics, it always seems to inspire me to go wrench on mine. Good stuff man.

I had a little bit of time this morning to work and got the swingarm mounted up with new shocks and bushings. :D

Then I started work on the triples and discovered that the AllBalls tapered bearing kit doesn't fit. GRRRR. The bearing ID's are incorrect. They've apparently assumed that the kit for the GT series bikes also fit the T500. I really wanted to have this bike back to a rolling chassis by the weekend, but that's not going to happen until I get the right bearings.

Re: 1975 Suzuki T500 Frame powdercoated 3/7/11

How frustrating is that ?
We had exactly the same problem. We bought the bearings from ebay and they don't go over the stem. Double grrr !

Re: 1975 Suzuki T500 Frame powdercoated 3/7/11

I'm sure this is just the first of many minor speed bumps waiting for me! It took a few emails with AllBalls, but I think I now have a kit on the way that will work. Fingers crossed! :)

I now have a goal to get this bike back on the road:

Rockers Reunion is two months from now. I'm not 100% sure I can get it finished in time, but that's my hope. I'm going to have to speed my game, that's for sure!
