Welcome! You picked a great bike, lots of support for it and they are absolute tanks. Yours looks pretty complete, just begging to be stripped down. I would recommend taking a battery, or jump it jut to make sure the electrics work and it actually does at least spin over. There are a few of them on here already and I'm sure those guys will chime in with help. Check out the XS11 site for a lot more specific info as well. I always wanted an early XS11 myself, but ended up with and 850 special to go with my 650.

Thanks for getting the tips i was begging to think that i was never going to get one haha, i spoke to the guy and he said i can test drive it before i load it up.. i think 600 for a bike like this is solid here is the cl ad http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/mcy/3474438569.html

I had an xs11 bobber. The standard you are looking at is a great cafe start due to the tank and they are bullit proof. I lost mine due to a situation which become beyond my control (still kicking myself).

The xs11 site has a wealth of knowledge. Many of the people there are purists when it comes to the bike. The site is great for info and questions though. i just might avoid telling them you are hacking, bobbing, or caffing it.

Mine was a work horse and would pull every bit of the 130 mph it was rated for. was a little finicky getting tuned in with the exhaust and the pods though.

I am looking for one for a cafe project next year again. I have seen a few that look awsome as cafe bikes. It all depends on the look your going for I guess. for 600 with a title, and running I wouldn't pass it up! I am sure some of the xs11 guys will chime in soon enough.

Post up a build thread when you get her home,

Its been fun working on it im still working on re-building the mastercylinder and forming the seat that came with it into a cafe seat. what would you do to "make it go on a diet"
.. i really have no clue what im doing yet haha but i was just messing with it.. i actually ended up getting her for $500 ill start a thread right now and post pics

Obviously if your on a cafe/customs forum you get part of stripping the bike down. First start would be to remove parts such as the fairing, bag brackets, luggage rack holders and any other extra HEAVY unnecessary parts.

After you get it down closer to a base you will find many parts are removable, replacable or don't fit the vision and direction in your head. Use the vision in your head to find other items that could provide weight savings, while possibly providing performance attributes. Focus area by area on recreating your vision. By finding inspiration pictures ETC you can work out what you want to achieve area by area, Keeping safety, braking, then speed in mind while doing so.

I'll look up your build thread. You may be far past some of this by now.

just my 2 cents
