1976 CJ360T "Red" in the ATL

I made my seat pan from aluminum but, I was able to utilize the original lock. I had to move the hinge up the frame a couple inches and re-used it also. Its nice. Just to snap it closed. instead of bolts and all that crap. Maybe yours will work out the same.

The chopped down seat lines up with the stock latch so I should be able to use once I find a new to me latch. It looks like some put a crew driver through the one I have so it will not do.

I bolted down the rear cowl through a frame brace and the rear fender. It sits a litter higher than the tank so the frame is visible but two small saddle bags like the Tarantula's Smooth Criminal bike should hide it well. I found a local upholstery to stylishly wrap the seat next week for $100.

I still have a little more shaping to do to the foam but this will be the general idea.

Well that sucks. just for fun take it to a locksmith and ask him to fix it, you never know. Or, sometimes you can find seat lock/ ignition combos on ebay. but theyre not real cheap. That way you still only have one key for both.

Thats a nice price for the seat cover. I paid $130 for mine. One of the most expensive parts on my bike.
What I can see in the pics looks good...you need to push it out into the light.

So I'm picking up the seat from the upholstery shop Friday and will make sure to post bright, in the light photos for trek97. Just before I sent the seat away, I added turn signals, clubman handle bars and sawed in half the headlight/gauge mount in favor of headlight mounts to lower the headlight bucket.

The throttle grip has a slow return. Not sure if it was there before but I've read it could be a dirty, insufficiently lubed cable or the new grip is too tight. Since lubing the cable is something I should do anyways, I figured ordering a cable luber would be a good, low cost investment. Hopefully that takes care of the issue.

I also need to make another trip down to Ace Hardware and find the right bolt/nut/spacer cocktail to mount the gauges lower. They really stick out now that I've lowered the headlight.

Heres what I did to lower my gauges. It has worked very well and was a breeze to make. just a small piece of sheet metal I bent in vice and a couple carriage bolts. just took a few minutes.

Nice tip Trek. I'll be using that one.

I'm not sure about the seat jdub. Did you move it up? Looks a lot like the stock seat.

Nice indeed Trek. I'm not using clip-on bars so I'll have to modify your design a bit. Maybe I can mount a Z bracket at the bottom of the handle bar mounts under the triple tree...

The seat is 6-8 inches shorter. I don't remember which. I’ll mount it on the bike tonight when I return home from ogling moto bikes at a local car and bike show in East Atlanta Village. Photos to follow.

Yep. the bracket should mount the same. w the bars. Sorry I didnt take any pics or get any measurements during the job. You will have to fool with a little to get it just right. cut a bit off here grind a bit off there. but it does work and looks pretty clean. once installed.

I haven't updated this build in a month but progress has been made. I finished the seat (for now), mounted a euro style taillight, installed turn signals, replaced the faulty regulator with a RadioShack substitute and lowered the gauges using longer bolts and spacers.

I have yet to test drive her since I have failed to adjust the clutch cable properly after almost two weeks of trying. I frayed the cable end yesterday trying to lube it so I've order a replacement along with a cable luber tool. From what I've read on here and the Honda twins forum, successfully adjusting the clutch cable on a CB/CJ360 is some sort of test of wrenching fortitude/right of passage. Hopefully I pass next week.

I took plenty of in-process photos but they are locked away on a broken iphone. I managed to snap a photos with the wife's phone just before taking the bike to a mechanic to have the new chain shortened and installed (I now know how easy it is to with a Dremel tool)
