Here's some pics of my new restoration project .. a 1976 Ducati 860GT, not a desmo (valve spring top end ala the 750GT) and a somewhat unloved model because of it's styling. As a consequence, most of them have been chopped up to make MHR / 900SS replica's. Not so with this one. It will be going back to original specification/condition.. with some choice deviations such as some nice bars, stadium bar end mirrors, conti silencers, 900SS bell mouths on the carbs and maybe a tidy up of the rear end.
It looks in pretty bad shape but surprisingly everything is solid. The frame is perfect, and the tank isn't even rusted inside.
It is covered in every kind of corrosion known to man besides barnacles, but no real rust to speak of. The motor turns over freely and has had oil in the bottom end, so we're in luck.
Every single surface needs blasting and rechroming/painting/powdercoating so it'll be a long build, but I think any bevel drive ducati twin deserves the trouble.
Cheers,
Ben
