1976 Honda CB360T - The first step is admitting I have a problem build

I intend on replacing my coils. These are on my short list:

Here's a way to get reliable sparks too.

Get Non resistor caps, and NGK Iridium BR8EIX Plugs. The fine wire tip will last longer and give better service life. Since the plug is resistor type, you should use a non-resistor cap.

It is what I am doing right now, even with points (PAMCO coming soon).

www.hondacb360.com has non-resistor, shorty caps. I bought them from him. they are NGK, but don't have the white logo on them...the look like shorter versions of the stock caps. I'll get a pic later and post it for you...

That's not a bad price and it looks like mounting wouldn't be the end of the world either with those two studs on it. I'm a little ashamed to admit I'm running the plugs that came with it, as they were brand new. No idea if they're the right ones, but I gapped them and the bike ran, so I'm good right? ::)

Any news of when the CB360 PAMCO ignitions will be shipping out?

Coils between four and five ohm are a good choice for the smaller displacement Hondas. I run the MikesXS ones on my 360.

Another positive review, good to know.

One day I'll learn to properly "budget" the electrical power available on older bikes. Or I'll get a Rick's hot shot stator and...still have to budget, heh.

Plugs should have model number on the porcelain.

ND (Nippon Denso) W24ES
or
NGK B8ES

These are non-resistor plugs. If you have something different, post the numbers and we can cross reference.

PAMCO? No idea...Pete is a good guy, but marches to his own drummer.....He is doing the CB450 and XS650 ignitions as well, and he may just be backlogged on those orders.....
He isn't a 300 person manufacturing facility, so I am just going to be patient. Good things come to those who wait.

1 ohm coils will work but I wouldn't use them, they are really designed for CDI or low dwell ignition systems
I'm pretty bad at amassing stuff for future use but sometimes it's better to just shelve stuff and get what will be reliable, you don't need extra variables in the mix.
As for clutch adjustment, I always used to say screw the handlebar adjuster all the way in but if doing hot adjustment you may need to back things off when cold so need some movement there

Thanks guys, I'll check the plugs (and probably replace them) and tuck the Ducati coils back away with the rest of the bits in the back of the barn.

So my current "check first" list is static and dynamic timing (and resetting the points!), both cold and hot for sanity's sake, and then adjusting the clutch with the bike hot. I'll also check to see if leaving the bike in neutral hot prevents it from stalling, which would point to the clutch being the issue.

Yep, get everything set, beat shit out of it, try not to fall off while your having way too much fun pissing off bigger bikes ;D 8)

^^^^^ THIS Never gets old!^^^^^ ;D

Just heard from Pamco Pete. Looks like further testing is required for the CB360 ei. He thinks they should be ready to start shipping in a couple of weeks.

Good News.

That's dead effing on! I almost slid off the back of the bike the first time I opened it up in anger! And then my toe got a workout kicking through the gears to keep up with the tach! I kept wanting to get the rear end out and put a foot down going through turns. And that's without it being dialed in!

How's recovery coming PJ? I saw you mentioned that your back was already feeling better, so that's good!

Recovery is going to be a bit slow, it's pretty major surgery.
I'm getting aches from the muscles relaxing that were clamped down tight preventing spine moving around, more things seem to be hurting today but I know it's an 'improvement'
Still have over half bottle of Percocette, should be enough to get me to the follow up in few weeks

Hurray for an improvement then! It's gotta be better than what you were dealing with before, right?

I just recieved a paypal reciept from pamco...maybe that means they are shipping soon. No tracking info though.
Or maybe it means nothing.

Hmm, I received the receipt when I paid for the thing, but yea, no tracking info either. Three day shipping flat rate boxes have really spoiled me, heh.

Yep, I'm not moving around much but seems less pain than previous.
If I could focus properly I tthink I would feel a bit better.
I'm assuming my eye's are not working right because of the painkillers?

Maybe the drugs are making you sane, and you are not familiar with sanity. Lol.

I hate drugs, I like being lucid, but I hate pain more. Hopefully this surgery gives you some reduction in pain.

You may be onto something there ;D
I've realised I'm not going to to be able to make a living fixing bikes but have absolutely no idea what to do that doesn't involve fixing things, it's what I've done for almost 45 yrs, need to look for a 'real' job :(

You could look into teaching at a vocational ed school or community college - you're good at schooling us :)
