So I picked up a 1977 Honda CB550k a few months back for $100. I've been working on it during my free time. When I first got it, it was missing a headlight, the carbs were off, the battery tray, airbox and a few others parts came in a box. Here's a few pics!

Scored a front end off of a 2006 Gsxr600 for $180 (craigslist). Ordered the bearing kit from cognito moto right after. She bolted right up! It looks like someone broke the ignition part off. I'm thinking of leaving it, adds a little character to the bike lol. Now I just need to find a set of clip ons. Really debating if I should go with a nice set like Vortex, Woodcraft, driven etc or if I should go with an eBay set. Anyone have any experience with these?

A coworker of mine said Yamalube worked great, so I decided to try it out. Came out pretty good!

What changes to the rake/trail did the GSXR front end make on that bike?

I didn't have the original on for very long. But I think is lowered it some and brought the front wheel in a bit more. It definitely has a more aggressive stance to it!

You ruined it.

Where are the original pipes that were worth more than your finished product will be worth?

You think a broken triple adds charachter huh. Wow, that's one of the most ignorant things i've ever heard anyone say about a motorcycle.

Stock trail on that bike, according to the Google is 4.13". What is it now?

Sounds like you are on the wrong forum, considering this is for custom builds.

The pipes have holes at the bottom of each of them and are not worth much. I wouldn't have chopped the frame of the bike was well off enough to restore. The top triple clamp still functions as normal. The only piece that broke supports the original gsxr ignition, which I won't be running. Most guys actually end up shaving the piece off anyways...
Thanks for your opinion though!

If there was a motorcycle forum named "The Wrong Forum", I'd probably be the one of the first to sign up.

They can be repaired, and you might be surprised. They would at least pay the purchase price for that bike.

AWWW frame chop already huh. Welp there it is, another original gone forever. Dropping like flies they are.

P.S. we can see your pics, it was in pretty good shape dude.

Do they? I thought most guys did it the right way with custom triples that correct the trail problem you are going to have with stock triples. Guys that end up with a finished product that rides better than stock, that is. Well hell I guess I don't know much about this shit so nevermind.

Yep, anytime. Even sometimes when you don't want it.

Now get out there and prove me wrong ;)....Chop chop.

I ran away from the caferacer.net forums to avoid the likes of you, please! let the dude build what he wants the way he wants to!!

I like cr.net.

Smart guys over there that know their shit.

If they are telling you that you're doing it wrong, you're most likely doing it wrong.

Bullshit. I'm tired of hipsters cutting bikes apart and throwing half the shit away. If he didn't want public opinion he should not have posted a thread on a public forum. Trust me, I learned it the hard way too.

If you had ten seconds to read you would realize that I already said what you just said. If you would take another five you might notice some things i've offered will help him.

Or do you wish to focus on the negative?

You are completely right! I should have never even touched this bike... Guess Ill just cut my losses and call it quits. I think the salavage yard is still open. Ill see what they'll give me for all of these parts. Thanks for the epiphany!

Picked up an all original 1967 CB160! This one out of respect I will be restoring. The motor is stuck for now. It's been sitting in a barn untouched since 1979.

3 insults...tons of help

I've cut up an xs650 for a hardtail and a GS750 for a brat bike...so I'm a hipster then?

Your post is ignorant and not chronological. The first quote was posted well after I had offered much more info.

Told him the truth. Squeeze your squirrel food together and get over it.

Brats are gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

the lack of chronology was intentional...you said you helped him...I then quoted your first post in this thread...3 insults...no help, If your desire was to be helpful that probably wasn't the best way to introduce yourself...

Thank you for your insults

Welds look good - nice work.

I wouldn't run that top triple though - most likely it has been weakened by having the ignition ripped off it. Last thing you want is for it to break whilst you're riding it.
