1977 CB750 Deviant Hell Ride

Well just because this bike wants to fuck with me, I have figured out that there's something drawing juice somewhere it ain't supposed to. The stator is also in question. I'll test it tonight when I get a charge. I got to work and back today, but the bike sat at 7v when I got home. It seemed to hold on the way to work though. There was a point where I said I would wire it from scratch, but I didn't. I may be regretting that now. This could all be the Dyna pulling all the juice and the stator not keeping up.

Turns out the white exciter wire on the brand fucking new reg/rec is dead. Nothing to the stator, so nothing coming out. I tested the stator good. Still haven't checked the rotor, but it looks like the reg/rec is at least most of the problem. Nothing like a brand new part going bad to make you look at everything else when something goes wrong.

who's regulator rectum finder? I was able to get one from Sparky Moto for a great price. I ran mine on the Sun tune and it jumps around some at idle but charges 14 at around 2k and above 12 at 1500

It's a Sparck. Could be a bad unit. Could be I blew it. I'm leaning toward the latter. Just to finish the checks, I got 7.7 ohms on the field coil. All good. My reg/rec is toast.

I have a few around from other bikes, I'm not schooled in the reg/rec guts, but I wonder if they are pretty generic and as long as it is 12V has 3 yellows a white and a black or 5 wires of common sense yer good to "try" it out??

I have a stock regulator that I plugged in to test. The rectifier side tested out good. As soon as I'm charged up, we'll see how this stock reg does. These are 7 wires- also with a green ground. A friend pointed me to a cheapo China jawn that's like $12 on eBay.

Clutch basket looks kinda rough, any notching in the 'fingers'? If mild you can file them but if more than mild it is safer to replace it. Just curious while its out there.

Clutch basket is smooth except for an even patina of rust. It's mostly coloration on the surface. Maybe I should pull it and go over with a phosphoric etch. The clutch discs were basically dried out and brittle, so a few miles in and the top four disintegrated. They spread a ring of disc material onto the inside of the basket. I'm thinking they must've sat without oil for a period of time to dry out the way they did. The rust coating suggests the same.

Steel baskets are less prone to the saw tooth, but the rust would hinder action some so yeah a little dust off would be good.

Just in case you aren't confused enough; or if you thought for a second this thing is anywhere near completion...

Give it a month or two, and another marque will be added to the pile. #frankenbikesforever

Final fit for tank and seat. Time for body and paint... Finally.
