Looks good man...Hopefully you can inspire me with my GS...Good Luck!

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

Tragedy stuck today I was trying to clean all the gunk out of the bowls today and i guess i got a little too rough and did this...

Thanks.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

What i am talking about is the copper piece. if you look in the picture it has a hole in it.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

Well hello Mr. P! Funny finding you here, didn't know you were doin' a 750 build! What gen is it k0? I'm tearin into my carbs today aswell man, I've got a 500 tho, but same principle. I took a look at my bowls and i think that copper piece is a package deal with the float bowl, find out if you need A or B side. I don't see why you couldn't patch it with a lil' solder, as long as you keep it from blocking the inside? I got a bunch of extras from my PO so I'll dig around and see if theres a piece like that in there.

Theres a good parts fiche for you, I think your looking for #42 on that list, its got parts numbers listed so just search um up for a us store.

p.s. a grievous theme is just too B.A. man!

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

Haha that's pretty awesome that you recognized my dog from the picture. Its a k7. Sweet man, what's your thread? I was afraid of that, its kind of hard to find a bowl especially since its bowl number 2. I'm think put a tooth pick to block the inside I don't know i'll figure it out.

Thanks for the site it will help me in the future, I'm sure!

Can you help me with your name, I don't recognized your screen name?

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

Today I was looking up methpds on removing exhaust studs that are stuck. I found a video of a guy using heat, then use wax for lube, then tap with a hammer and use pliers to turn the stud and break it free.. I tried it... and naturally it broke off into the head. So now I have to remove the head to take it to a machine shop. Luckily I ordered a complete gasket kit.

On another note, I took off my oil pan and everything inside looks to be in tip top shape. No metal shavings of scotch marks.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

This weekend I finally was able to take off the clutch cover and along with the stator cover. here a photos

I think i am going to take the whole motor to a shop in stead of taking it apart. seeing that my motor is in pretty sound condition.plus it will probably save time and money.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

A little update on the on going carb and engine fiasco (plus a distraction from my linear algebra studies)! well I got the engine to the shop to day with the help of my roommate hopefully they will be able to get the bolts out. For the carb problem i used the JB weld solution. I clogged the hole with a rolled up piece of paper and used the stuff around it. One thing i am worried about is it not holding and the vibrations of the engine will run it loose. Only time can tell. Here picture of my solution:

(Still a little dirty :-[ )

On the up news, I got my gaskets in and i ordered more carb parts, accelerator pump, jet kit, and slow jet kit.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project

Hey guys, it's been a while... it's not ya'll it's me

projects, presentations, tests and now finals. EE major isn't an easy one.

but it hasn't but my bike hasn't been 100% stagnant though.

bought a carb set from good ol' ebay, 100 bucks not bad.. needed it for the bowl # 2 plus extra carb parts is never a bad idea

they are from a 1978 Super sport, did the SS have polished throttle valves??? would it be worth it taking it apart the one i just got??? input would be great.

since the shop my buddy worked at wasn't able to take the header bolts out, tomorrow i am taking it a machine shop, hopefully they can work their magic.

Back to studying.

Hopefully my next post will be with good news

Oh, if any one lives in the DFW area and has a CB 160 that they want to sell for a good price PM me! My girlfriend just got a honda C70 (tons of fun) from the 80's really inspired me to buy something in the lower CC range.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Long time no post,

Busy with school and another project that I am helping my dad with. I've had little time to put towards my bike.

First, i finished my carbs and bought some Velocity stacks, looking beastly!
IMAG0283.jpg

Got the old exhaust studs out, thanks to a local machine shop, and the new ones in. I modified my exhaust by cutting out the baffle and about 6 inches off of it. I'm a man, and I like my things to be loud ;D

Mounted the motor back on the frame, I was going to pain the head on the engine but decided against it. I'm just going to wait till the winter months.
IMAG0284.jpg

Now I just finished painting my forks, waiting for my new steering bearing kit to come in. to put them back on the frame
IMAG0285.jpg

traded my old '77 gas tank for and older '73 gas tank, I much prefer this style over the '77 models. too low and wide for me.
IMAG0287.jpg

Going to make knee indentions then off to the paint shop with the seat I am soon to make.

just made out of cardboard model to look at the placement of it.

IMAG0316.jpg

then made a cardboard cut out of the seat pan and placement of my tail.

oh and you can see that i put on the carbs on.

hopefully next pay check i can buy my petcock and bet this feller runnin'

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Hey guys, I went down to Houston/Galveston for a little vacation and well I stumbled upon on a star wars museum! Got a little inspiration

IMAG0326.jpg

little progress has been done with my bike since my last post, I am waiting for my tank cleaner and petcock to come in and my oil tank to be finished.

more updates soon.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Bad ass inspiration source there brother. When we both get done we have to meet up for a ride. Dallas would never recover from our twisted styles side by side. Too cool brother.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

it was an inspiration source for life! Haha.. Yeah man! that would be awesome. I 've heard there is a group of cafe racers that ride around dallas, my old neighbor rode it a couple of times.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Thinking about making a fairing for my light bulb,

IMAG0386.jpg

it's rough but i think it would look sick.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Alright i thinking i am going to scratch the light fearing from the project.. I just dont think it will have that "cafe" look. But maybe get his mask painted on my helmet. Time will tell..

Oil tank is finished but locked up in the machine shop. I really wish i would have taken a fab class in my high school days, never too late though right?

Yesterday, bought two cans of Gunk engine cleaner and went to town on my motor. seeing that Grievous isn't all sparkly and clean the motor shouldn't either. though it is clean as a whistle

IMAG0390.jpg

throttle sleeve and clubmans are in the mail.

hopefully by my trip i can hear it purrrrr.

So where is that fairing? It wouldn't be too hard to bash it out of some sheet. You could get a trashed bowling ball to act as a form, and ball peen to do the shaping.

thats a good idea, but i don't know if i am going to do the fairing anymore. I don't know, I am trying to get it running first. I've been on vacation for the past 3 weeks, so i have some catching up to do..

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

This is what I've been working on the past weeks,

I got metal rescue to clean out my tank... worked really well actually.

hooked up my electrical put oil in the motor and cranked it (put oil in the motor first of course)... naturally first time didn't start..

since i don't know how to test my coils and they look pretty worn (exposed wire, rust, scratches) i decided to invest in new used ones. hooked them up still didn't get a spark...

brought out the multimeter( should have done this in the first place[learning]) tested my regulator, it checked out then I tested my rectifier, it was cooked.. one good thing about these cb750 is it easy to come by parts here in the states.. so got a brand new rectifier for 30 duckets shipped!

here are some up dated photos

Little messy from oil spill!
IMAG0133.jpg

new speedo, clubmans and my rats nest
IMAG0131.jpg

I am really considering just scraping my old wiring harness and making my own... shouldn't be that hard just tedious. or i can just stick with it and extend the wires.. I bought all new terminal couplers and connectors.. mine are mostly decade, so i am going to be doing some crimping and soldering anyways.

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

I got my rectifier... still no spark.. started to dig a little deeper. i took off my condensers to see if that's the problem, but I have no instrument to measure capacitance (farads). I went to my university today to see if they have the instrument but neither do they or so says the T.A. I would hope they do, being the electrical engineering department. Did a little searching on ebay found new condensers and new points for $30 shipped so i figure to stop worrying and the get new ones. Now i am saving up for the seat, electronics pan, and brakes. Also, my kill switch little toggle that switches from "run" to "off" is loose, there is no clicking action... I don't know what happen?
