1977 CB750 "Grievous" - Cuttin' 'n' Splicin'

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Today i got my new condensers and points, took of the old ones and tomorrow i have to go to the hardware store to pick up new bolts to put them on. I took off my right hand switch to get a better look... from the obvious fact that my starter button needs to be rewired or just that i need to find a new switch all together. This is the internal of my right hand switch

here is the switch you can see my starter button wires are alll mingle

Now this is my where the "off run off" toggle is... is it missing something that makes it click?? lost on this one... ebay isnt really helping to supply a new used one..

Take that c clip off and the switch can be removed. Be careful because there is a small spring and a tiny ball bearing that will come out. I suspect the spring and bearing need to be cleaned up. After 30 years it is probably all gummed up and not "clicking" properly.

Awesome man! thanks for the suggestion that thread helped a lot!

Re: 1977 CB750 cafe project - Buildin' on up

Project still stagnant,

I got a new kill switch off of ebay for $30 bucks that works, hooked it up still no spark... Now I am at a stand still.. Looking at all my connectors or couplers, most to all are weathered. so there is a high possibility that this is the problem.. corrosive connections. Also, i put a multi-meter to my stator coil, i was getting impedance but it was jumping. I am not quite sure if that means that the coil is bad or not measuring other things it seemed to be a steady resistance.

guess now all there is to do is put on new couplers re-try to test my stator coil. hope this works.

Alright i did some work today, i started to replace all the bad couplers, replaced about 3  ... its hard work haha just tedious. I tested my stator coil, everything was good. just a crappy multi-meter. seems as though all my components are good, just something is missing.

looking at the points in my bike i realized that i should just fork over some money and get the Dyna S ignition. so i don't have to worry about those silly points. plus i get better efficiency and power. hopefully by then end of this i will get somewhere.

My roommate just got his running"Yayupp" really got focused on getting mine up and going.

Tomorrow, I am going to finish the rest of the harness. 8)

Also, my roommate pointed out that i was missing the clutch Safe T switch was missing.. would this be a problem? looking at my diagram doesn't seem to interfere.

Spark achieved! but i decided to leave it at that for tonight. But non the less!!

Also, today went and got a mac exhaust, used, but better than the piece i was using.

Here is a photo of the Dyna ignition coil mounted:

tomorrow is Oktoberfest here at the bars, so i might get it video of it running before i go out if not definitely by Sunday.

now to tackle my starter issue... it wont turn over... out with the multi-meter and manual!

Currently, I am trying to start my bike using the kick starter and starting spray. i kick it and sparks come out of the exhaust... I am sure it is not a good thing. i'm sure my bike isn't going to explode if i try to kick it over some more but what could be causing this? Some residue in the pipes? or in the motor just catching the combustion stroke? i stopped before i made things worse.
