1977 CJ360T Oil in Alternator Case normal?

Been Around the Block
I just started working on a CJ360 for the first time. When I pulled off the alternator cover, oil came out, which I didn't expect. Is this normal or is there a bad seal in there? I've got a CB400 and there's no oil in the alternator housing. I've also been checking the parts pages and I haven't been able to find an oil seal to replace, so maybe its fine? I'd appreciate the help of anyone more familiar with working with these machines.

Cb350, 360, 175,200 etc all allow oil into the alternator cover. Try to keep teh bike upright and you won't lose too much.

Here's the cure: Pick up a badly used alternator cover for cheap on e-bay. Drill with a hole saw, about an 1.25 inch hole, or whatever you have close to that. Drill the hole so that it is over the index mark on the stator.

Now you can time your machine without getting oil all over the place.
