1977 Honda CJ360 - Café SOS - Stage Two™

My only thought on the threaded portion was it would eliminate a nut on the backside and gain a little clearance for the chain.

SOS was getting a bit jealous of my 750 project, so I spent a bit of time on Sunday getting things in order.

I've got the GS850 pistons in place. I'm hoping this will give me a little more clearance than the custom pistons I was running. I swap back to the custom set if/when I get a new head.

I also started on the wiring cleanup and the installation of the dual alternators.

Dual alternators?
Would it be possible to rotate outer stator 60 degrees and fit it further inboard?

That was the original thought, but the windings prevented me from drilling the holes in the necessary locations.

More wiring done, but no pics of that just yet.

Here are a few of the Emgo fairing, new clipons, and Trailtech Vapor that are all in the process of being installed.

Fairing will probably get a coat of gloss white paint, but I'm still debating it.

Headlight looks very cool. My honest opinion is that you should ditch the fairing though. I think it looks weird on there. Sorry.

Yeah, I agree. It's functional though, so I'm keeping it for now. Long term will be to use more of a full fairing like you see on the GP bikes in the sixties.

A friend finished up some welding on my frame (1/4" plate rear set mounts), so I was feeling a bit motivated to get some work done. I put everything together to check clearances after the latest round of machining when I realized I forgot the thrust washer on the cam.

No biggie. I grabbed the thrust washer, lifted one end of the cam and promptly thrust that washer right down the cam chain valley.

So in another hour and a half I had the engine out of the bike and the bottom case separated. I pulled out the thrust washer along with two acorn nuts, a small screw, a lock washer, and a stick.

Needless to say my two year old isn't allowed in the shop for a while.

Ha, reminds me of a video recorder i was asked to fix years ago, when the lady asked what was wrong with it i said "two year old" she said no its only brand new.. her two year old son had put crayons and cars inside the slot, at least dropping the washer in meant you found the other stuff before it did damage.

Can the bikini fairing be mounted lower?
I think it would look better, plus, of course, painting to match rest of bike will totally change the look

I decided to skip the fairing afterall. I'll hold out for something a bit better. Gonna remain naked for now.

I tell you what bud. I am glad it didnt come down to damage. I can only imagine the look on your face.

Any chance of some pictures of the rearset mounts? Going to be tackling that in the next few days myself and it'd be good to get some inspiration
