this is my 1977 KZ650 named Sachiko. She has been treating me well lately so i have been adding and removing bits of her to accent her appearance.

took a sawsall to the back of the frame
shortened seatpan
bars
pipe
lowered headlight
clip-ons coming soon

the seat is somewhat temporary. its my first try and i plan on cleaning it up a bit.

what should i do with the gauges?, i want them lowered a bit and made smaller, i am thinking about modifying the stock mount but would prefer an aftermarket tach and no speedo.

suggestions?

That bike would be a perfect candidate for street tracker handlebars. In my opinion of course.

Love the exhaust and the tail.

i am not sure what street tracker bars look like. i was thinking about some gold supercross bars from a dirtbike but i like the look of clip-ons too much i think.

Clip-ons, rear sets and a Acewell digital all-in-one for your gauges.

It's pretty compact and can be set down near the level of the top triple, will clean the front end right up.

lower the gauges you have until you pick up something smaller. then some air pods are cheap and you can shuffle around the wiring and move the battery to get that minimalist thing. plus its a cheap weekend mod that will change the whole bike.
ive seen a couple different bikes using the centerstand mounts to hold a battery box. you lose about 5lbs ditching the stand and lower the center of gravity by moving the battery.

if you dont want to do all that you can still slim it down by taking off the sidecovers and making your own with sheet metal. the sidecovers on kz650s are unnecessarily raised from the frame

after that definitely the seat and gauges, after that its all fussy little details that we all obsess over until we get a new bike.

When it comes to minimization of the dash, you can try this.

Mental note for ya here. As long as you're still geared 16/42 & the tire is about the same diameter as stock, add a zero to your forth gear RPM's & you have a surprisingly accurate speedo.

Pm sent too.

Do you have to run gauges for inspection in your state? I'm not sure what's up with all the 'gauge love' on this board-I haven't run them for a year and been fine. You just pace yourself with the rest of traffic.
