hello everybody, i am new on this board and would like to introduce myself. i just picked up a 77 kawasaki 650 for my first bike. i really dig the cafe look and style. after a little work, the bike runs strong and smooth. i plan to trim the fat off the seat and mount a better tail light. any ideas on how i could make her a little more aggressive?

here is a vid. can somebody please embed it for me? i am having trouble with it.

Sounds like its idling high - sounds like a good 2K RPM. Should be down around 1K. Could be simply idle adjustment or synching your carbs to lower it.

The way it sounds when you're reving etc. makes me think it needs a good synch. No big deal.

Great bike - solo seat, clip-on bars, a fork brace, bob the rear fender, smaller lights and voila!

yup, right on the money. its idling around 1800. when i get a tag on her ill have a mech sync the carbs and make sure the fuel mixture is right. after the first 15 miles the plugs had a little bit of white. i think tires might be the first on the list aside from the carbs. they still have lots of meat, but are old.

could i damage the bike by riding it a bit before i have it serviced?

also, she could use a change of oil....

cheers mates!

White on your plugs? Thats lean mixture, you'll want to have a look at the before very long or it could cause some problems. Not hard to fix, the idle either. If you've got the time it should be an easy fix, worst thing you might run into is a jet change.

So...oil change, idle adjustment and (if it needs it) a jet change. Dead simple.

Hope it goes well, sweet bike! - boingk

whats up,

i think that it sounds awesome, and agree with tim with this one, synco the carbs and check the plugs.

anyway, sound great.
later.

Great bike David! BTW I really dig the garage too. Looks like a cool place to build a cool bike. And Tim's reply x2

thanks everyone! its nice to be on a forum that doesnt flame all the noobs! my 1st 100 miles has gone smoothly and a kawi tech says the carbs seem sync'd enough but i need to turn down the idle screws. thats a job for tomorrow, along with an oil and filter change.

cheers everyone!
