Got to do some much needed work yesterday... Changed the oil in the forks, was almost black in color. No wonder after almost 36 years i guess ;-)
Also got the engine oil and filter changed, that looked better than I thought. BUT i found a few, very small, white pieces which looked like some kind of plastic... Anyone have an idea what this can be??
Made a bracket for the license plate as well, and got to drive for 3-4 km Looking so much forward to driving it around this summer!!
Can you get a picture of the little plastic pieces?
If they were slimy, I'd say condensation build up in the oil. If they were brittle, I'd say excess gasket material. Rock hard.....than epoxy that holds the magnets on the stator.
But from your descriptions I guess it is from the stator. There were just a few very small pieces, should I worry? I'm planning a new oil change when I have driven for a few weeks since it has been standing still for 12 years...
I wouldn't be terribly worried about it. But I do recommend the following:
Replace the stator and R/R (if you haven't already).
Get a new oil pan gasket - at least on the GS450, the oil pan itself had a lot of channels that can collect debris. With the oil pan off, you can also clean out the screen covering the oil pump. It will probably be blocking even more of those white plastic bits.
Rich - if there doesn't seem to be any issues with the electrics, and say I don't see any white plastic pieces in my next oil change, do you still think its necessary to replace the stator and/or r/r?

On a Suzuki GSxxx? Absolutely. They have quite the reputation for burning up eventually, so even if your electrical system is in top shape, better off to nip it in the butt. My 450 has had every component replaced (except for the ignitor), and my GR only has the original stator left.
I would like to point out - usually when 1 component burns up, it doesn't die a lonely death.......
I'm not completly happy with how the color became on the tank and tail... It is ok, but clashes a bit with the red details on the bike which i really like.
My plan is to go really mad and old school; dark gold with MUCH gold flake
