Hey Everybody. So I bought a 77 GS400 the other day. This will be my first project bike. I'm looking to build a cafe racer with a kind of all flat black look.

So, it runs like a top. Starts first kick every time. Id like to clean it up and add a new rear seat bump and seat. Also, I plan to replace the tank. Id like to tear down the bike and cut the unneeded off the frame and paint it. Also, I'd like to rewire it and add some cooler blinkers. Last that white tape will probably get replaced with black tape.

So, I would love some ideas, or direction on where to get parts and such.

Thanks

Ill be aboard for this thread! pickin up a 1982 gs400 off my friend for $500, gunna make a nice cafe!

Thanks Guys, ya i plan to keep riding it for at least another month or so. You know how these New England Winters go, pretty soon there will be snow. Over the winter I want to tear it apart.

I do like the rear fearing, but its it rough shape, the picture makes it look better then it is.

I def need to replace the rear shocks and maybe add some disc breaks?

Keep the ideas coming! thanks

Bondo the tank, drag bars and id say you are set.

Save the pods and re jet for winter when you cant ride anyway. Enjoy the rest of the sunshine.

Maybe clean up the insides of the side pannels but keep them on, then you can take them of when you want to change looks, and put them back on when you want another look.

I'd keep it a runner and do it bit by bit, but keep on enjoying using it.

This is an old topic but I have a similar bike a 1978 gs400x. I would like to know if you had to re-jet your carbs when you shortened your pipes. Also have you put the pods on yet if so what jets.
