Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *rear sets here we go*

Wow man, youre really steaming ahead here. Very cool. Post up some pics of the rearsets your putting together.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *rear sets here we go*

thanks! this is the only pic i have right now. the rear sets are still lumps of metal. funny thing is, i just carried a ww2 metal lathe down to my dads basement..lol....i used what is called retard strength by my gf. i guess it is funny since i am only 5'10" 165, give or take a beer. who knows could have been the adrenaline and the fact i could have been crushed. but hey I'll be turning out pegs!

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *rear sets here we go*

for the other bikes off to my left is nd2ski 's build. and his girl's to my back right. i don't know i f he got his build tread going yet...but last night he was machining handle bars or something.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *rear sets here we go*

Projects lookin good so far, let us know if you need any help with the rear sets.

What happened with the GS? The "L" model has the cruiser shaped tank and the older Zooks are known to have charging problems.
well my friend looked at me and said what do you think? i said i am here to tell you if it is mechanically sound and this gs550l is almost mint, so if you want a bike hop on it. 800 bucks later, with low miles with cherry everything, he took it down the street and loves it!

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *she lives!!!!!!!*

as far as the rearsets i have a idea of what i am gonna do...but this weekend is gonna be crammed with school work. if someone has a cad drawing, and parts list with #'s that would be cool.(i have seen some but have not got to research anymore). i am looking to mount them from the second pass pegs but have not got to really test any ideas out. if not i'll figure it out when i get my next chance...prob a week or so as it looks now, which sucks because i need to ride this thing asap!lol

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *she lives!!!!!!!*

i got the metal lined up for the rearsets to be made. now i just need to figure out if i want to use the second pass. peg or the two of the engine mounts?!?

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *first shot at rearsets*

I'm mocking mine up saturday morning if you're gonna be around. Before you cut into the metal, make some out of wood or that sign foam to get an idea of what you want.

hellyeah. i was thinking of cooking some clams for the end of the semester and then rearsets sat sounds good! i might live in the shop this weekend. i have been away too long being this close!

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe *first shot at rearsets*

I'll only be around in the AM. I have to work at 3 then take copius amounts of food from the Big A on my second last day. I'm probably not going to sleep friday night and just work on my bike all night.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ###you decide color###

through a poll up so we can vote on the colors! not sure what you guys will pick, but this should be interesting. other than that finishing up some odds and ends today. the bike is back to priority #1 again!

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ###you decide color###

Allow me to be the first to rock the boat...
I vote all the above.
OK well not ALL. I like 3 color paint jobs and since the bikes natuarlly have flat black rubber and silver engines , I say black and silver with white accents, or black and white with touchs of silver....

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ###you decide color###

I think brickyard makes the most sense for a vintage bike really...the forum I got those pics from (i think it was VW Vortex, not sure) had that color being loved big time.

Its hard to judge paint on beautiful cars, unfortunately. The GT3 could look good in any sort of baby shit brown even....actually, there is a sick Porsche brown that is pretty pearly, don't know the name off-hand though....

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ###you decide color###

If you want low sheen, go with matte black and aluminum. After that insert accent color of choice in the amount you want. Flat picks up too much dirt and grime. Great for beaters and rats, but hard to keep clean otherwise.
