Looks very clean! Are you doing any stripping or decals?

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ### oh the colors###

Thinking of white and black checkering from the gas tank to the back seat with maybe some spades within the white checkering. I think they're just gonna be vinyl... I hate painting lol

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ### oh the colors###

picked up some cb750 front fork springs today for $25.looks like they should be able to swap out and stiffin up the front end....get rid of that soft feeling it has now...what do ya think?

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ### oh the colors###

Just got back to this thread - I can't help with the 750 springs but:

Please don't do anything else to the paint! I really like it where it's at right now - checkerboards and spades would make it look too "busy" IMO. But of course, it's your bike and your decision and I can respect that.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ### oh the colors###

the paint will be as it is for at least a little while. i have not fully thought out what i would do different yet. still have to get more time to work on the rear sets.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ### oh the colors###

Looks sweet as is IMO. The only thing I would do to the paint for now... is to outline those awesome knee dents with some red pinstripe tape. It would tie in the carbs and be easily removed if you change your mind later.

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ### oh the colors###

well with the current seat height rear-sets are not going so well. my legs seem to long to use them. i have played with the mounting point and almost every were it seems i will lose comfort. example: when i use the second pass peg position my foot is perpendicular to the ground, not parallel. has anyone used the stock controls and ending up happy? not sure what to do. maybe build up the seat like 4 inches?

Re: 1978 cb550k cafe ** oh no **

exhaust on.
finishing timing on the electronic ign.
carb sync set all ready hooked up!

haha, my thoughts exactly

idk what is was trying to say about the caddy remark...i guess i was just so impressed with this being and old bike and all it drives great. runs amazing, and perfectly sound! the front end is solid, and the old dual springs work 4.0. took some more pics. i"ll be uploading them for a while. best thing i've did was build this bike. there is nothing like it in this city (buffalo) and most people are just confused by the whole style itself, excluding the occasional open minded Harley rider or a triumph worshiper.

i plan on getting some better shots of the bike and at least one quality video.

haha and to those who have noticed that is not the back tire that will be on there. it is on order. just giving it a little shake down. :)

no the jetting is a little rich so the open carbs do not bother the bike at all. the stacks are not finished yet. i just pull the choke when it is shut off. i know crazy, but there is no problems. i went 7 sizes higher on the mains (90 to 105) and 2 turns out on the idle screw. gave a extra 2 mm to the float height. slow jets replaced the 42's with 42's still have 45's on stand by but i don't need fuel... the bike runs great with no bog. she starts quick and does not like the choke for longer than 2 sec, after about 2-3 min warm up she is good to go, that's cool with me because a strong runner that is not lean is what i want.

if i can get dyno time for cheap i'll put the numbers up here for sure. i really don't see why some people knock on these 77,78 carbs so much.. once you take them apart a couple times you start to really get an idea of why things work the way they do.
