Hey guys,

I just bought a 79 CB750F with the hopes of rebuilding it. This is the first bike i've owned and dont have much knowledge but want to learn how to work on motorcycles. I reattached the throttle cables on to the carbs but now the throttle isn't smooth. By smooth i mean it feels like its really sticky and when i open throttle i have to use a lot of force on with my hand to twist the throttle close and vice versa. Any reasons as to why this is happening.

Why were the throttle cables off? Was anything done to the carbs?

Did the cables move freely when they were not connected to the carbs? How are they routed?

You want to have free moving / lubed cables for one, then they need to be routed so there's no sharp curves in them (well, as little as possible).

yeah they moved freely when they were not connected to the carbs. I dont recall how they were routed off the top of my mind

Remove the cables from the carbs, then check the action of both. If the the cables moved freely before you connected them, then the carb linkage could be binding on something

the cables did move freely before i attached them to the carbs. I'll take a look when i get the chance to sometime this week to see if its binding on to something.
