1979 CM400T Half-cafe

Finally finished painting. The color is "Wimbledon White." It came out really good. I'm glad I took my time with all of the prep work. All that's left to do is apply the decals and clearcoat this weekend.

Ok, I got a lot accomplished today! I was able to get everything clearcoated in Spraymax 2K; Fenders, chainguard, tank, side covers, and wheels. They look fuckin' sweet. I got the fenders and chainguard back on the bike without scratching them up and the tank and covers should be good to go in a couple days once I buff them. In my excitement I only snapped a couple shots, I'll get some more tomorrow.

Oh so shiny.

Special thanks to my dad and brother for all of their help along the way.

Thanks a lot! I got a little over zealous this weekend. I hadn't ridden since the end of July and really wanted to get my bike back together to enjoy for the remainder of the riding season. So I worked from morning till night yesterday and today with the help of my dad getting everything done. Yesterday was spent getting all the clear coating done while today was spent with a box of stuff I ordered from Dime City Cycles and eBay. It took all morning but we managed to put together a kick ass new exhaust to match the brand new paint job. After a short intermission we put the bike back together and it looks awesome!

I hope you guys like it as much as I do. Let me know what you think. I had originally intended to put some knee pads on but I'm not sure now. I really like the simplicity of the tank and kind of think the pads will crowd it. Any thoughts? I don't want to screw anything up this far along.

It was getting dark just as we finished so I'll put up some daylight pictures tomorrow.

Enjoy, I know I will!

Nicely done. This bike should be used as a case study on how to make these bikes look good and run good without going crazy. Not that there's anything wrong with going crazy, but sometimes we just want to have a nice bike without having to redesign everything. This is one of my new favorites.

Wow, thanks for the kind words guys! I'm really happy with how it turned out and have been getting a lot of compliments. I'm already missing working on it though, even though while working on it all I wanted to do was ride it. I think it's time to start saving for another project, only this time I'll have something to ride while it's going on. I'm thinking a mid 70's CB750 four.

I snapped a handful of pictures the other day after cleaning up my bike and getting it ready for the long winter ahead, I figured I'd share them.

And a few more for good measure. I'm going to miss riding for the next few months but coming home at night with the temperature in the 30's is no fun.

I got here reading through the massive rattle-can sticky.

Love what you did with the bike. I really like the red decals against that white. I've been leaning to some sort of ivory with a red pinstripe or two for my CB400.

Where did you get those decals? Especially the CM400T ones on the side covers?

Love the look of this bike mate brilliant :)

Similar colour scheme to what i was thinknig with my CB900, Black frame and wheels white fairings/tank etc.

nhbubba: Thanks for the compliments, I had a lot of fun fixing up this bike. It came out better than I could have imagined. Both of the decals are from ebay. The seller I got the CM400 decals from is "yamatopdog" they're reproductions of the factory originals. The Honda wing ones were from "optical2009" who was able to make them a custom size for me.

Sideswipe: Again, thanks. This was really my first time doing anything like this and I learned a lot. I can't wait to get some extra cash together to start working on something new. I might even do a little more on this one if funds allow it. I got to a point where I just wanted to ride and show off what I'd done.

I know some of the guys on here make and sell decals. With a little bit of photoshopping you could easily turn the CM400 logo into a CB400 one. That, or make your own design and have them print it for you. Just a thought.
