So after screen shotting to many images to count on builds that I find sweet, its time for me to jump in. Last year I picked up a 1979 GS 550 off of craigslist and road the bike year round. Slowly I plan to rip the bike apart, upgrade it, and of course all while still riding it. The GS550 isn't my dream canvas, so the plan is to be spend cheap and to learn a lot.

I ordered some parts -

- flat rear hoop
-super dope china made brat seat with mounting brackets
-dime city led integrated tail light
-shorty levels and master cylinder
-new chain and sprockets
-was given some knobby tires from my buddy
-new stock headlight
-new clutch and speedo cable
-new controls
-bar end mirrors
-dan moto 180 digital gauge
-new stator regulator
-mac 4-1
-led flasher relay
-led turn signals
-inline resistors
- pro taper lows

And finally here is where I am up to date -

Currently wiring up the Dan Moto Gauge which is pretty intimidating - racking my brain on how to mount the magnetic sensor

Welding on the rear hoop and mounting the led taillight strip this weekend

Ordered some new brake lines from apex brakes

And last but not least, trying to figure out how to get this freaking crappy Mac 4 to 1 to mount up on this bike.

Any thoughts/ideas are welcome

Yeah that reverse cone looks sick, and I bet it sounds better. DCC? Im not too keen on the Mac, just super cheap ;) @chocolatelab - you in Lancaster?

So Saturday I got some time and welded on the rear hoop and made some tabs for the mounting. Super pumped to be done with it, and thankful for friends with welding skills. We decided to also swap out the chain and sprockets. Turns out I counted the teeth wrong and I was 1 off in the front and 2 off in the back on the sprockets, so lots of celebratory wheelies will be done as soon as its running.

Still nervous about the speedo, got the background illumination taken care of, turn signals, and oil, but I need to get a tach hole plug, and figure out where I am going to mount the magnet for the Dan Moto Hall Sensor. Anyone had any experience with these? My buddies are working on a similar build so we will see if their trial and error can be of any help.

@clinedesign - the seat is a eBay special sent in from China. Super light weight, and really impressed with the quality for being 80$. Took a month to get here though.

Haha bet it sounds great. Also yeah. Its Alex. 8)

Got in the garage yesterday and sprayed down the rear hoop and soldered up the tail light. As of now, all the electrics are taking care of minus wiring up the Tach and resistor to the ignition coil and getting this hall sensor set up for the Speedo.

Need to add a valve stem to the back tire and pump them up. Then I need replace the sprockets and get the covers back on.

Last thing is figuring out where to mount the muffler on this Mac exhaust as well.

Also uploading the photos auto rotated the images, if you click on them they go back right side up.
