1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special Project

dirtbag

Been Around the Block
Guys I just picked this up. A rescue of sorts. The guy didn't want it any more so he sold it to me for dirt cheap.

Lots of work to be done. Guy says it starts first kick and he wasn't lying. Bike is awesome.

Thats a really good looking bike. Kinda like how it looks just stock. Looking forward to see wht you do with this. What are your plans?

The plans are simple. Clean it. Replace what's worn. Get the tank, side covers, and fender painted in pearlescent white. Apply all decals that are needed. Keep it stock and pull wheelies.

??? WHAT?????? YOU HAVE TO BE F##KIN KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY OUT OF THIS WORLD AWESOME, BATMAN!!!!!!
ONE OF MY DREAM BIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BIKE PORN!!!!!!!

Oh, God!! When I saw the word "carnage" my heart sank!! Please, Thank you, for not cutting up that Daytona. I've only ridden one in my life and it was restored, beautiful, and fantastic!!! The only thing better I could imagine is a RZ350 "Kenny Roberts Edition".

Painted the swing arm, rearsets and brake lever.

Started putting the motor back in. Just need to oil tank it and put chain and body on. Got new sprocket and some brake decals. I'll put the stock handle bars on at a later time.

Ok so back together. Just need to clean the mufflers and reattach. Get some yamalube and some gas and pray that it'll fire. I'll take some better pictures in the sun. I cleaned the entire frame, polished the head and repainted some shit.

The middle. I'm going to probably send this crank away to get fixed. In the mean time i'll just swap engines with my other 79. It has less mileage on it anyway.

Back running. Not great. I think it needs to be jetted up. It bogs off the start unless i screw the pilots most of the way in. Also hi rpm it cuts out.

If I put the choke on while starting out it seems fine. So i ordered some more jets.

125/25 in there now. Gonna go with a 130/30

Here she is.
